We just got some BIG news about the upcoming 2022 D23 Expo!
The ultimately Disney fan event will be held in September, and along with lots of exciting new and returning events, there will be exclusive new merchandise! Check out what we know so far.
We can’t believe it either, but 2022 is almost here!
We’ve already seen discounts and deals announced for next year, 2022 merchandise released, and details shared about special things that will be returning to Disneyland (and other Disney theme parks) in 2022. But now we’ve got another update you need to know about if you’re planning on visiting the Happiest Place on Earth in 2022.
Even though many things are reopening again, some parts of Disney remain affected by the global pandemic.
Some hotels remain closed, live entertainment is not fully back, and things like FastPasses remain on a hiatus. Another part of Disney that is being impacted right now is Adventures by Disney. The global, guided vacation system just canceled more trips in the United States for this year.
We got some BIG news about Disneyland Resort earlier.
Due to new state guidelines, theme parks in California can reopen as early as April 1st, 2021. In response, Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock stated that Disneyland would announce a reopening date soon. But if you were lost in excitement over visiting Disneyland again, you may have missed something important.
Disneyland remains closed due to the global pandemic.
Downtown Disney and Buena Vista Street are currently open, and Disney California Adventure is planning to reopen for a limited-time ticketed event in March. However, due to California state mandates, Disneyland Resort as a whole remains closed. But we’ve been following the progress of a bill that may allow the parks to reopen sooner than planned.
We’re nearing a year since Disneyland closed down due to the global pandemic.

Although Downtown Disney and Disney California Adventure’s Buena Vista Street are open to guests for shopping and dining, it’s been a long time since anyone has had the full experience of the Disneyland Resort theme parks. After receiving strict reopening guidelines from the State of California back in October of 2020, Anaheim officials are in support of accelerating Disneyland and other Southern California theme park reopening.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has implemented a system where “Stay-at-Home” orders are put in place in regions within the state once that particular area falls below 15% ICU capacity.
Earlier this month, some regions, including Southern California — where Disneyland Resort is located — fell below this capacity level, triggering the stay-at-home order to be implemented in that region. The stay-at-home order is then set in place for a minimum of three weeks, at which point the situation can then be reevaluated. The order was set to expire in Southern California on December 28th, but as California’s ICU capacity continues to fall, Governor Newsom has announced that the stay-at-home order will remain in place in Southern California.
The global health crisis has upended the travel industry and resulted in the closure of Disney Parks globally during the spring. Although many parks have reopened (with some ultimately re-closing), Disneyland in Southern California remains closed.
Although Disneyland Resort did have the opportunity to open up some retail outlets and restaurants at Downtown Disney, as well as on Buena Vista Street in California Adventure, a recent stay-at-home order has put a limit on the capacity for stores, as well as a limit on restaurants to only offer take-out and to-go orders.
Earlier this month, a stay-at-home order was issued for Southern California, including Orange County and Anaheim.
The order went into effect when ICU capacity in the region dipped below 15%, which triggered the order via a mandate by the state of California.
In November, Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure Park reopened as an extension of Downtown Disney and we were reunited with some of our favorite park snacks!

Just a few days ago, however, Southern California was placed under a regional stay-at-home order, causing many of the restaurants in Downtown Disney to close or only be open for take-out. And now, we’ve spotted another update for Disneyland Resort — Downtown Disney will NOT be open at all on Christmas Day.
