Though Florida Governor Ron DeSantis may have ended the “corporate kingdom” by changing parts of Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District (now called the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District) and appointing all new board members, the Board might NOT have the power it expected thanks to a special agreement Disney entered into with the previous Board. We’ve seen Disney comment on the new Board’s lawsuit threats and statements released by a Board Member, but now we’ve got even more news on the matter.

When the battle for Disney World’s Reedy Creek Improvement District (now called the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District) began, few could have predicted that the king of England would get involved.

Before Governor DeSantis signed the bill putting Reedy Creek in the hands of a new board, Disney stripped the District of its powers by getting King Charles III involved.

The new Board of Supervisors for Disney’s Reedy Creek Impdesarovement District (now called the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District) is not wasting any time.

The new Board of the modified District has been appointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and has already discussed potential changes that could come to the District. Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro, previously noted “If that new board understands the value that gets created here and how it positively impacts the Central Florida community, I think they will be aligned with our vision and will carry on the Reedy Creek soul that’s been in place.” But it seems the new Board may be more focused on fighting Disney and some key agreements made recently.

If you’ve been following along with the situation between Disney and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, then you know that a LOT has happened in the past year.

After Disney spoke out against the Parental Rights in Education Bill (also known as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill), DeSantis took steps to dissolve the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which is the governing body that oversees Disney World directly. After a long battle back and forth, the district has been renamed and new regulations have been outlined going forward…including a changing of the board members.
