Friends, it might be summer in the rest of the country, but at Walt Disney World, Autumn is ON! And while some might say it’s too early for Halloween and Pumpkin-Spiced-EVERYTHING, I am not that person. So you KNOW that while I am happily in Disney World to cover the 2017 Epcot Food and Wine Festival, I also HAD to grab my ticket for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!
Every year, Mickey welcomes his pals to this special extra-ticket event at the Magic Kingdom. This year, the party is taking place on select nights from August 25 through November 1. And you’re going to want to read on to find out where you can scare up goodies like THIS…
… plus TONS of other treats! And not just of the candy-in-my-trick-or-treat-bag variety, although there’s plenty of that, too! [Read more…]

Didn’t get your fill of Halloween fun this year? Fret not, friends! Because we’ve got one more treat for you from the season of tricks…
On October 30th and 31st, Disney Resort Cast Members at resorts around the World competed in pumpkin decorating contests. I got to check out the displays at the Contemporary Resort and Port Orleans — Riverside, and wanted to share some of the fun with you today!
At the Contemporary Resort, individual Cast Members showed off their pumpkin carving skills. The display was huge, including well over twenty pumpkins!
Guests at the Contemporary placed their votes for pumpkins across a few categories. A member of the Security Team won “Best Overall” for this awesome [Read more…]
Happy Halloween everyone! In honor of this spooktacular holiday, we thought it would be fun to keep with the tradition of sharing some fabulous Disneyland Pumpkins with you.
The Incredible Pumpkin Carvers are back at the Big Thunder Ranch Halloween Carnival and they’ve been busy!
Carved and decorated by a small handful of Disney artists, I noticed two incredible talents that were at the ranch on several occasions during Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort. Both Disneyland carving veterans, Bridget McCarty and Joe Yakovetic can turn a pumpkin into a masterpiece.
Some pumpkins are carved, some are painted, some are carved and painted. There are sparkly pumpkins, embellished pumpkins and even pumpkins on pumpkins.
They’re all so unique, but what they do have in common??? Their awesomeness. Let’s take a look at some of these [Read more…]
Happy Halloween Everyone! In honor of this candy-filled fabulous day, we thought we’d share a fun Disneyland Halloween Time tradition: The Incredible Pumpkin Carvers.
For several years now, Disneyland has featured some of the most amazing pumpkin carvers I’ve ever seen. This year, the “Incredible” carvers are located at the Big Thunder Ranch Halloween Carnival in Frontierland.
The sign says “Ask Them How They Do It,” so I did! On the day that I visited, I spoke mostly with Joe, a 7 year veteran carving for Disney. He told me that they carve all day long making Disney inspired pumpkins for guests to enjoy.
Joe was working alongside of Georgina, who told me that the carved pumpkins actually last up to a year if you keep the carving on the surface (i.e. not cutting the tops off and cleaning them out).
Some of the pumpkins on display, including the “Baby Mickey” shown below, were featured last year at Disneyland’s Halloween Time.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I am not a big fan of raw pumpkin smell. So, when I asked about the smell while carving, I was surprised to learn that they use a white variety of pumpkin that actually smells like cucumber for many of their masterpieces.
Joe let me take a whiff of one of his pieces and yep, much more cucumber-y than smelly!
Supplies used include, but are not limited to, carving knives, paints, shish kebob skewers, decorative floral pearl tips pins, ribbon, straw & pipe cleaners. And after [Read more…]
