Earlier this month, Disney purchased a large amount of land, leaving many to wonder what Disney’s plans are for potential future expansion in Florida.
We can only imagine what Disney has up their sleeves!

UPDATE Monday 1:47PM ET:
Love these updates from Jeff_EMT on twitter. He was part of the Irma ride-out crew in the Magic Kingdom. Very interesting twitter stream from yesterday and last night.
UPDATE Monday 3:50PM ET:: According to this sign in the lobby at Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney World theme parks will reopen Tuesday morning! And, guests can enjoy Extra Magic Hours at the Magic Kingdom!
___________
Disney World closed those big purple theme park gates on Saturday night, September 9th, in preparation for Hurricane Irma. This was only the fifth time that Disney World closed its theme parks since it’s opening in 1971. And while guests were still accommodated at Disney World’s many resorts, the theme parks were shuttered and anticipated to re-open on Tuesday, September 12th.
Now guests who weathered the storm in Orlando, and those who have trips scheduled for this week and the coming weeks, are wondering when Disney World will re-open.
According to Fortune, Walt Disney World is working with experts to assess the damage from Irma, plan for clean-up efforts, and determine when it’s safe to re-open Disney’s parks and attractions.
The Orlando Sentinel shares more details, saying tropical storm-force winds will remain in and around the Orlando area until afternoon Monday. Orlando is under a curfew until 6PM to protect citizens from aftermath like live downed power lines.
“We are beginning an initial assessment of our property,” a Disney World spokeswoman said Monday morning. “While we experienced high winds and rain, we maintained power throughout the storm.”
Disney World and the rest of the entertainment attractions in the Orlando area are still aiming for a Tuesday re-open, but they are assessing damage and determining what is best for the safety of their guests and employees. Disney’s official website says they are still hoping to resume normal operations on Tuesday, September 12, but we haven’t seen any other announcements from Disney.

We’re meandering back through the brand new Harambe Market in Disney’s Animal Kingdom to take you on a full tour and review of some of the treats at Zuri’s Sweets Shop today!
The shop, located outside the main gate of the new eating area, is your stop for all kinds of prepackaged sweets and snacks. You’ll find an assortment of familiar Disney snacks with Animal Kingdom-specific branding as well as a number of out-of-the-ordinary bulk items. But you’ll also find a confectionery counter with freshly made candy, cookies, and other sweets.
We shared a first look at Zuri’s the day it opened. As you may recall, the big story there was the “Match the Species” Treats — aka the “poop” candy. While the treats made a big sensation, they were gone almost as quickly as they arrived. (We’ve spoken to store managers about this, and they claim that the snacks sold well and they aren’t sure why they were pulled from the case. They suggest telling guest services that you’d like to see them come back.)
I can’t wait to show you all that we’ve tried over the course of a couple of visits! But before we get to that, let’s have a look around.
If you haven’t had a chance to check out Harambe Market in person, be sure to take a look at our tour of this new spot. Disney has managed, once again, to create a brand new part of Animal Kingdom that looks like it’s been there since opening day. The themeing here is extraordinary.
You’ll find Zuri’s Sweets Shop standing across the “street” from the main area that [Read more…]
Great news, sports fans! Splitsville, the brand new luxury bowling spot in Downtown Disney, Orlando, has announced that they’ll be taking the Tables in Wonderland discount card going forward!
For those who aren’t sure what Tables in Wonderland is, it’s a Disney World Dining discount card that can be purchased by Florida residents, Disney Vacation Club Members, and Annual/Seasonal Passholders of Walt Disney World.
The card offers a 20% discount on food and beverages (including alcohol) at most Disney World table-service restaurants, and even some counter-service locations (like food courts at resorts that don’t have a table-service location).
Check out Tables in Wonderland pricing, details, restaurants on the list, and more here!
We’re excited that Splitsville is joining the list of restaurants where we’ll be able to get a discount when we’re in Disney World. My first visit to Splitsville was awesome, and I can’t [Read more…]

Bread pudding is a ubiquitous dessert in Disney World. You can find versions of it on nearly every buffet restaurant menu (Boma’s and Crystal Palace’s are well-loved!), a counter-service version exists at the Main Street Bakery, savory versions have been found at Le Cellier and Cinderella’s Royal Table, and you could claim that Rose and Crown’s Sticky Toffee Pudding fits the bill.
But there are some spectacularly sweet, official bread pudding options at three of Disney World’s popular table-service restaurants.
It’s these three that I’m going to stick with today, and usually I can give you my clear favorite; but when it comes to these, I think it’s time for a poll. After having eaten each one of these desserts over the past year, I can’t make up my mind as to which I like best — I honestly can’t wait to dig into each one of them again!
So I’m hoping you’ll join in and cast your vote for a favorite. Let us know in the comments why you made your choice, and if you have another bread pudding version that you would [Read more…]

Guest reviewer Bill Iadonisi is back with another great review! This time, Bill takes us to a relatively new Downtown Disney eatery — Paradiso 37. Take it away, Bill!
Hello again Disney food lovers. Before I begin I must offer an apology. I had promised to first review all of the Disney counter-service restaurants for the Food Blog. But as you can see, I had to deviate a bit from my plans for this review. Circumstances brought me to Downtown Disney, and we decided on Paradiso 37 for dinner, hence this review! But I will be [Read more…]
