Disney is no stranger to lawsuits, but things don’t always work out so well for the Mouse.

We’ve seen Disney get involved in lawsuits over COVID-19 allegations related to Disney Cruise Line, a property tax appraisal, and, most recently the Genie+ system. Many times Disney’s lawyers work diligently to get a positive outcome for the Company, as you might expect. But sometimes things don’t quite go how Disney would have hoped. That’s right folks, sometimes Disney has been sued and LOST.

The Walt Disney Company is no stranger to lawsuits, and it seems they’ll now have to face another one.

Disney is currently involved in 2 lawsuits (one related to Disneyland and another related to Disney World) about its Park Pass system. Lawsuits have also been brought against Disney in relation to the Rise of the Resistance ride design and even movie releases. But now a huge Disney system is the subject of a lawsuit — this time, it’s all about Genie+.

Annual Passholder Lawsuit Filed Against Disney Over Park Pass Reservations

Late in 2021, Disney got hit with a lawsuit from Magic Key Pass holders (Disneyland’s updated version of Annual Passes) over the Park Pass reservation system and its interaction with Magic Key.

That lawsuit alleged that Disney deceived its fanbase by “artificially limiting theme park capacity and blocking passholders with ‘no blockout’ annual passes from making reservations.” Earlier in 2022, we shared an update on the case and the claims that had been allowed to go forward, along with a look at how the lawsuit likely impacted the Magic Key passes made available for renewal. And now it looks like Disney might be feeling a little bit of deja vu.

UPDATE: What We Know About Disney World’s Reedy Creek Dissolution

The Walt Disney Company has been at odds with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis ever since the company spoke out against Florida’s Parental Rights Bill (or what critics call the “Don’t Say Gay” bill) that the governor eventually signed into law.

Governor DeSantis retaliated against the company by threatening to dissolve Disney World’s Reedy Creek Improvement District, which allowed Disney World to act as its own county government. The Governor’s efforts to dissolve the district were successful, and a bill was passed to do so. Now, where do things stand with this situation?

UPDATE on $5 Million Lawsuit Concerning Disney’s Park Pass Reservation System

In December of last year, a $5 million lawsuit was brought against the Disney Parks and Resorts on behalf of Magic Key Holders (the Annual passholders in Disneyland). The lawsuit alleged that “Disneyland deceived its most loyal fan base by artificially limiting theme park capacity and blocking passholders with ‘no blockout’ annual passes from making reservations.”

Disney responded to the suit about a week later, filing for the case’s removal and stating that the company was “clear about the terms of the Magic Key product” and would “vigorously defend [their] position as the case proceeds.” Now, several months later, we finally have a new update about this case! Reedy Creek Lawsuit Against Florida Governor DISMISSED

The political controversy surrounding Disney World’s Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID) is far from over in Florida. Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law that will dissolve RCID, which is a special district that essentially allows Disney World to operate as its own county.

The nature by which the bill to dissolve RCID was passed has been criticized by some, and others worry that the change will place a heavy burden on taxpayers in the counties where Disney World is located. As a result of the bill passing, some taxpayers decided to take legal action by suing Gov. DeSantis. Now we’ve got another update on this saga. [Read more…]

NEWS: Taxpayers SUE Florida Governor for Dissolving Disney World’s Reedy Creek Improvement District

The saga with Disney World’s Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID) continues in the state of Florida.

The RCID is a special district under which Disney World’s land has operated for 50+ years. The special district arrangement essentially allows Disney to, in many ways, act as its own county and have a great deal of control over decisions made regarding the land it operates on in Orlando. But a recent bill passed by the Florida legislature and signed into law by the Florida Governor would dissolve the district in 2023 (unless a new agreement is reached). Now some Florida taxpayers are making their voices heard when it comes to this matter.

NEWS: $5 Million Lawsuit Filed Against Disney Regarding Magic Key Passes and Park Reservations

Earlier this year, Disneyland discontinued its regular Annual Pass program and later introduced its new annual pass program — Magic Key.

The different types of Magic Key passes come with their own perks and benefits regarding things like blockout dates, etc. But Magic Key holders must also abide by Disneyland’s current theme park reservation requirement. At the moment, all guests planning to visit the parks, including Magic Key holders, must have a park reservation for the park/day they want to visit. Sometimes park reservations can fill up for select guests. Now, a Magic Key holder has filed a lawsuit against Disney Parks and Resorts regarding Magic Key passes and park reservations.
