UPDATE: As of 11:08AM ET on September 25th, Helene has been upgraded to a Category 1 Hurricane.
We’re continuing to watch out for new updates on Tropical Storm Helene as it makes its way into the Gulf of Mexico.
Tropical Storm Helene is expected to hit the Gulf Coast and parts of the Panhandle of Florida within the next day or so as Hurricane Helene, and we’re keeping up with all the updates. While Disney World most likely won’t be directly hit by the hurricane but will feel the effects of the massive storm. We’re taking a look at the updates for the tropical storm as of 7AM CDT Wednesday, September 25th.
Tropical Storm Helene is expected to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico before it makes landfall in Florida on Thursday.
As we reported yesterday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had declared a state of emergency for 41 counties in Florida, but stopped short of the Central Florida area where Disney World is located. All that has changed today, though. As is often the case with hurricanes, Helene’s forecast is changing. The storm is now expected to grow larger and more powerful than previously thought — and that means it will affect a larger area.
Tropical Storm Nicole is on its way toward Florida, and Disney World is making preparations to keep guests and employees safe.
The Disney World parks will close early tonight (November 9th) in a phased closure, and Disney Springs is also going to close early. Some hotels will close, along with certain amenities like miniature golf courses. Additionally, nighttime shows and other events have been canceled. UPDATE: Tropical Storm Nicole has been upgraded to a category 1 hurricane as of 7PM ET on November 9th.
Disney has already announced several changes that will happen at the Disney World parks and hotels in response to Tropical Storm Nicole, which is expected to affect Central Florida today (November 9th) and tomorrow.
The parks are going to have a phased closure beginning at 5PM on November 9th, and several nighttime events have been canceled. Disney suspended cancelation fees as well, so you can cancel your reservations without penalty if you had previously planned to visit in the next few days. On Tuesday, September 27th, Disney World announced that the theme parks would close due to the threat of Hurricane Ian. This closure was scheduled to last through Thursday, September 29th.
Now that the storm has passed by Central Florida and the weather is starting to clear up, Disney is getting ready to reopen the parks.
