While the service’s names and rules have changed, it still is a tool to help you get through attraction and ride queues faster so you can enjoy more during your park day. 2025 is a year of big change at Disney World, which is why choosing to purchase Lightning Lane this year will be especially beneficial.

Winnie the Pooh Lightning Lane
Over the summer, Genie+ transitioned into Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Individual Lightning Lane transitioned into Lightning Lane Single Pass. While the new Lightning Lane system offers guests a way to pay to skip the line, a few tweaks were made by allowing reservations and purchases to be made in advance, and tiers, similar to those used with the FastPass+ system were brought back. Well not too long ago, Disney added a third Lightning Lane option and the rules have once again changed, but it is good news!
If you are looking to skip the line at some of Disney World’s most popular attractions, you may have considered purchasing Lightning Lane.
Mad Tea Party Lightning Lane
Lightning Lane is Disney World’s pay-to-skip-the-line service, and it recently replaced Genie+, and Genie+ replaced FastPass+. There are three different versions of Lightning Lane, which can get confusing. Lightning Lane Multi Pass is similar to both Genie+ and FastPass+. Lightning Lane Single Pass is the replacement for Individual Lightning Lane. The newest Lightning Lane offering is Lightning Lane Premier Pass, which some have compared to Universal’s pay-to-skip-the-line service, Express Pass.

Many people seem to glance over two other changes that were made with this new system, but they are essential to think about, especially when planning your trip!

This change helped clear up some naming confusion and the new system mimics its predecessor FastPass+. Now, there is a third Lightning Lane option available, and some people have very strong feelings about it.

Genie+ is no longer, and the service was replaced with Lightning Lane Multi Pass. The new service is similar to Disney World’s old service, FastPass+. It unlike FastPass+, costs money though.With Multi Pass, you can now make your Lightning Lane selections in advance, and rides are split into a tier system. This change also makes it easier to start to budget for your vacation as prices are posted beforehand instead of the day of. With this change, Individual Lightning Lane transitioned into Lightning Lane Single Pass. Single Pass still works the same way as before, but just like Multi Pass, you can purchase and make your selections in advance. Well, now, a third Lightning Lane option will soon be introduced, and we have some not-so-great news about it.

Magic Kingdom
Over in Magic Kingdom, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure started to welcome visitors to go down the Bayou in June. The Country Bear Jamboree re-opened with a brand new show that features the Bears singing Disney tunes. Plus, TRON Lightcycle / Run no longer uses Virtual Queue! In EPCOT, CommuniCore Hall and Plaza opened, marking the completion of the EPCOT Transformation. We even got big news at D23 about changes and additions coming to all four parks! It can be hard to keep up, and we were shocked when Disney made a huge announcement about Genie+, the pay-to-skip-the-line service.
