The Disneyland Donut Cart has done it again! They’ve brought back the Dole Whip Donut!
The Best Disney Donuts EVER.
Not that we need any excuse to dig into our favorite donuts (at the Disney Parks and in the real world!), but today is National Donut Day, so we’re basically obligated to eat as many donuts as possible.
But let us take a moment to wipe the glaze from our chins so we can bring you some of the coolest, tastiest donuts at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort! Grab a napkin, folks!
1. Main Street Plaza Ice Cream Parlor’s Donut Sundae in Magic Kingdom
To celebrate National Donut Day with a side of awesome, head straight to Main Street Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, and order the Donut Sundae.
It’s HERE! The Dole Whip-Inspired Donut Debuts in Disneyland!
Why was this not a thing before?? After the Matterhorn Macaroon Donut I figured the “Dole Whip Donut” wouldn’t be far behind, but it’s taken a while. Still, happy to say…it’s finally here at the Disneyland Donut Cart!
News and Review: DONUT SUNDAE (!!!) at the Main Street Plaza Ice Cream Parlor
WHAT?!??! I know. That’s what you’re saying right now.
“WHAT?! DISNEY HAS A DONUT SUNDAE AND I DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT IT?!” How do I know you’re saying that? Because that’s exactly what I was saying when Tina (<– amazing DFB photographer who’s frigging awesome) spotted this at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor in the Magic Kingdom this week!
But it’s OK. It’s brand new — not even on the menu yet — so we didn’t miss out on too much of the Donut Sundae lifespan. And we’re hoping that lifespan is a nice, long one!
The Main Street Plaza Ice Cream Parlor can be found at the intersection of Main Street USA and Tomorrowland, just before you get to Cinderella Castle. And the sundae joins a few other must-have treats on the Ice Cream Parlor’s menu, including the house-made ice cream sandwich (preferably ordered with a drizzled sauce!), the “kids’ cone” (it’s totally OK to order this as a grown-up, too) with Mickey ears, and the Plaza Ice Cream Sundae. So…I’m really not envying you the decisions you’ll have to make when you get there! ;-D
After spotting the sundae on a placard, we grabbed it! It comes with a warm glazed donut, warm apple compote, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, a cherry, chocolate chips, and peanut butter chips.
Review: Big Ol’ Donut at Joffrey’s Espresso & Pastries Kiosks
Okay, so maybe when you read the title of this post, you thought, “Really? In the land of Dole Whips, Citrus Swirls, and Supersize Grand Marnier Slushes… you give me donuts?” But just wait. These are super, duper giant donuts. And I know that makes a difference.
One day, I was passing by one of the kiosks, and I heard a man yelling to his wife, “Honey, they’ve got ’em! I found DONUTS!!”
And I thought, “You know what? The man is right. Sometimes, a person just wants a donut.” And since you can’t find them much anywhere else in Disney World (cronut excepted, of course), it gives us an excuse to check out a few of the Joffrey’s kiosks located in and around the Parks.
You’ll find them peppered all over property, often labeled some variant of “Coffee, Espresso & Pastries,” summing up exactly what they serve. Even though they’re painted to match the area where you find them, they look fairly similar to one another in shape and size. Here are just a few examples — there is one right before you enter Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
You’ll find two in Epcot’s World Showcase — one to the left facing [Read more…]
Review: Todd English’s bluezoo
We were very excited on a recent trip to see what was new at one of the chicest spots at Disney, Todd English’s bluezoo at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort.
Located in the Dolphin, the restaurant will trick you into thinking that you have strayed away from Theme Park Land and entered the glitzy glam of a sleek Las Vegas hotspot.
But the real story is the impeccable attention to detail that Chef Chris Windus shows at every turn.
We have a TON of food to cover, so let’s get right to it!
Atmosphere
As I mentioned above, you’ll find a sophisticated and upscale vibe at bluezoo, which calls to mind a more grown up feeling. However, even though it may not seem super kid-friendly at first glance, this is still Walt Disney World and there will be kids there (yours are welcome, too!). bluezoo would also be a terrific spot for date night, if you decide to leave the kids at a kids’ club or with an in-room sitter while you strike out on your own.
As you enter, you’re immediately greeted by a fluid, aquatic feel. The effect goes beyond the visual — you hear the running water as well — but you are surrounded by a palette of vibrant blue, with accents of bright orange and flashes of silver.
Even when things aren’t moving, they may seem to be (especially after you start indulging in some of the unique bar drinks…haha!). For instance, when you enter through the bar, there is a stylized presentation of a school of silver-colored fish, seemingly alive with synchronized movement.
The glossy, natural woods and comfortable booths complement the rest of the look of the bluezoo bar. And the touchscreen order system is a fun addition. You’ll feel like you’ve strayed into the future while choosing what to eat!
We reported this detail in 2011, and on this visit we were told that the touch-screen menus will be getting an upgraded look and feel very soon.
Beyond the bar, we made our way into the huge, airy main dining room. The soaring ceilings and beautiful bubbly lights are combined artfully with [Read more…]
