Big things are happening at the Disneyland Resort and we’re here to break it all down.

DisneylandForward — a project whereby Disneyland will work with the City of Anaheim to rezone specific parts of the Disneyland Resort to accommodate new lands, attractions, and experiences — was OFFICIALLY approved in May 2024. This nearly $2 billion plan will transform Disneyland over the next decade, and we’re going to run down what those changes could look like.
The Walt Disney Company just had its Q3 earnings call, and while the company may be in a “slowdown” in terms of theme park financial results, Disney is sure that they will be able to make up their losses in the future.

During the Q3 call, both Bob Iger, the CEO of The Walt Disney Company, and Hugh Johnston, the CFO of The Walt Disney Company, addressed shareholders. They shared that the company had a 2% revenue growth in Q3, but during this, they said that they saw attendance flatten in the theme park this quarter, and they expect it to be similar in the next couple of quarters. They referred to this as a bit of a slowdown, but it is being offset by the entertainment business. While attendance might be down in the park, Disney has a plan to help bring revenue up more.

Iger, the two-time CEO of Disney who had the position from 2005 to 2020 before retiring and anointing Bob Chapek as his successor only to return to the role in 2022 after Chapek was ousted, recently participated in a Q&A session at the MoffettNathanson Media, Internet & Communications Conference.
May 7th, 2024 was a historic day for the Disney Parks and its effects could be felt soon!

After years of planning, several city council meetings, and tons of discussion involving blue sky ideas, DisneylandForward was finally approved on May 7th. The plan — which will officially take effect on June 7th, 2024 — will expand the Disneyland and Anaheim Resorts to offer more theme park experiences, dining locations, shopping spots, parking structures, and lodging options. While DisneylandForward is set to be completed over the next decade, the ripple effect could be massive before development is complete.

Right now, Disney is actively working on a project they’ve called “DisneylandForward.” Basically, the goal is to update certain building guidelines (by working with the City of Anaheim and the local community) so Disney can have more flexibility for future projects. Disney has already noted that they’re committed to spending $1.9 BILLION over the next 10 years under this proposal, which could lead to more park attractions, dining locations, stores, and hotels. And now, something HUGE has happened!
Disneyland’s latest expansion is taking another step… FORWARD very soon.

DisneylandForward, the massive Disneyland plan that calls for the resort to expand by allowing “theme park attractions alongside hotels on the west side of Disneyland Drive and theme park attractions alongside new shopping, dining and entertainment to the southeast on what is today the Toy Story Parking Area” cleared its first a biggest legislative hurdle when the proposal passed an initial Anaheim City Council vote on April 17th. However, another vote is yet to come.

Disneyland has seen a ton of changes already. Last year, a newly updated ToonTown reopened, Tarzan’s Treehouse became Adventureland Treehouse, Haunted Mansion closed to get an updated queue area, and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is under construction. But a huge $1.9 billion expansion is also coming to the park, which means new rides, lands, restaurants, and more!
