Review: Cretaceous Cooler at Restaurantosaurus in Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Picture it: it’s a hot day in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
(OK, that’s not the case right this minute, but LOTS of the time it’s a hot day in Animal Kingdom. ;-D) You need a beverage. Preferably one that is cold, sweet, and good for 5 o’clock somewhere. Even better if it has a groovy name.
We got your back. The Cretaceous Cooler found at the crowd-pleasing Restaurantosaurus may just check all of those boxes for you.
Aside from serving up consistently good Disney Counter Service classics like Chicken Nuggets and Bacon Cheeseburgers, Restaurantosaurus is also funky, fun, and kitschy enough to fit right in with its kitsch-central home, DinoLand U.S.A. (We say this with nothin’ but love.)
The paleontology students who — as the story goes — are responsible for the humorous décor all over the restaurant must’ve also felt the need for a cool drink to kick back with after a long week of study (well, those 21-and-over, that is). [Read more…]
DIY Disney Recipe: Elderflower Cocktail
If you spend any time checking out the menus of Disney restaurants, you’ll notice that St. Germain Liqueur is popping up a lot these days!
And with good reason! St. Germain is a French liqueur that’s made from elderflowers. The delicate, sweet taste is very unique and seems to be taking Disney World by storm.
We’ve recently had Elderflower Cocktails at the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival (where it’s made with elderflower syrup) as well as for brunch at Raglan Road.
With flavors that remind me of grapefruit and honey, this liqueur makes for a lovely warm weather cocktail. So for a recent family gathering, we decided to give it a try!
St. Germain Cocktail, Three Ways
We opted for the small, 50 ml bottles of liqueur. Actually, the store was out of the larger bottles, or that’s the way that we would have gone! A little pricey, but sooo worth it.
The bottles [Read more…]
Review: Modern Mixology Seminar at the Swan and Dolphin Food & Wine Classic
Nestled within the incredible Epcot Food and Wine Festival season is another highly anticipated food and wine extravaganza — the Swan and Dolphin Food & Wine Classic!
This two-day event gives you the option to enjoy the all-you-care-to-eat Causeway (review coming soon!), where you can stroll and taste samples from all of your favorite Swan and Dolphin restaurants (and meet some celebrity chefs, too). In addition, seminars are held each day covering a wide range of adult beverages. Interested? DFB has special rate codes for you for this year’s Classic! Check out the details at the end of this post!
Last year, I chose to attend the Modern Mixology Seminar and wanted to share the experience with you today!
Modern Mixology Seminar Atmosphere
This event was led by Lindsay Skillman, mixologist extraordinaire and the General Manager of Cabana Bar and Beach Club at the Swan and Dolphin Resort. (FYI — Lindsay will also be leading several mixology seminars at the 2012 Epcot Food and Wine Festival, so be sure to sign up if you can!)
The pamphlet for the seminar gives you a peak into the mad science that we were about to undertake…
We began the experience [Read more…]
Review: Japan’s Outdoor Sake Bar
Epcot’s Japan has been evolving over the past few months! The Yakitori House has re-opened as Katsura Grill, featuring a broader menu and some more authentic Japanese dishes; Kabuki Cafe is open as a take-away kiosk offering not just Kaki Gori, but also Miso soup, sushi, edamame, and other goodies!
But another little spot opened in Japan with little to no fanfare — a new outdoor sake bar located at the base of the steps to Katsura Grill.
While many folks will just walk right past this spot without necessarily noticing it, I urge you to stop by and try out a few of the items there. While I do enjoy the indoor sake bar in Mitsukoshi Department Store, this outdoor location offers a few more “introductory” sake drinks that I think you might enjoy!
Atmosphere
Like I mentioned, this location could potentially fade into the background. With similar clean-lined architecture and neutral tones to the surrounding area, it’s easy to just walk right by.
But this little spot offers a fun menu and an even more accessible stop on your tour to Drink Around the World! Plus, it’s a good introductory spot to try sake — a drink that is becoming [Read more…]
DIY Disney Magical Drinks: The Mad Hatter
Chef BigFatPanda is back with a new addition to the Disney Food Blog! We all know and love the Chef’s DIY Disney column here on the Food Blog, which gives us handy directions on how to make our favorite Disney recipes at home.
But Chef BigFatPanda’s latest introduction to the column is a series of unique magical drinks that we can all taste-test at home. To kick off this new series, the Chef has created a drink that’s perfect for those who love things both sweet and sour!
This drink, appropriately called The Mad Hatter, combines the kick of Vodka, the sweetness of Midori, and an extra little bit of flavor with some Sweet & Sour. Altogether, this drink will surely make you think of that sometimes sweet…and sometimes sour…character from Alice in Wonderland — the Mad Hatter! See the green of his hat and the yellow of his coat?
Here’s the Chef’s original recipe for this fun drink! [Read more…]
