Disney World is no stranger to working on projects and refurbishments for a long period of time. Often, it can take years after a project announcement until we FINALLY see the finished project. In the case of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad’s year-long closure, we might have an idea as to why the ride needs to be closed for a year.
It’s not uncommon to see Disney World rides close every now and then for refurbishment.
Space Mountain Closed
Sometimes the closures are short, only a week or so, and other times they need MAJOR work and are closed for months at a time (we’re looking at you Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster). If you’re heading into Magic Kingdom this upcoming week, you need to know about this ride closure!

Disney has lots of plans in store, but to get prepared, lots of shops, rides, and more are getting a refurb so that they look their best for the special occasion. The Main Street Confectionery is currently undergoing a HUGE refurb, and the PeopleMover finally (!!!) reopened after a super long refurb, but now a favorite Magic Kingdom coaster has been added to the refurb calendar.

We spend a lot of time spotting construction in the Disney parks. Just yesterday we found some new construction in EPCOT’s Italy Pavilion. To be honest, we’re pretty used to construction in EPCOT, but it’s more surprising when we hear tell of projects in Magic Kingdom! Could these permits point to upcoming ride refurbishments?
