As people who go to Disney World a lot, we should be used to change by now. Things are always changing in the parks, and that’s how Walt wanted it. Yet, sometimes those changes just HURT.
For example, we’re still wrapping our head around losing Muppets Courtyard to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. land in Hollywood Studios, although the Muppets will be moving over to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. We’re also feeling a little off about some of the other parks changes that will see beloved attractions disappear. When it comes to food, though, we’ve got a lot of changes we’re still salty about (the Sleepy Hollow Waffle situation, for example). Well, we’ve spotted another food change in Disney World and we’ve got questions.
Our beloved Columbia Harbour House over in Magic Kingdom has broken our hearts AGAIN. Okay, so yes, they got rid of the hush puppies, but then brought them back (whew), but now, we’ve discovered a shrinkflation situation happening there and we’re not entirely happy about it.
If you order the Trio Platter, which features a combination of beer-battered shrimp, chicken, and beer-battered fish served with French fries and hushpuppies, you might discover it looks a little different. Previously, the Trio Platter came with two chicken, two fish, and three shrimp. This is what it looked like.
Well, we recently confirmed with a Cast Member at Columbia Harbor House that the new version of the Trio Platter only includes one fish, one chicken, and three shrimp and three hushpuppies. Yep, the amount of meat in the new version is down by two. That’s all well and good, but the thing is — this new version of the Trio Platter is the same price as the previous version with MORE meat: $14.29.
So Columbia Harbour House giveth (the hushpuppies) and Columbia Harbour House taketh away (the extra meat). So when you next order the Trio Platter, we hope you’re not surprised by this downgrade. We might just protest by only ordering a side of hushpuppies from here from now on. Okay, we won’t, but still…

Walt Disney never intended his statement, “Disneyland will never be finished,” to be a blank-check excuse for every stupid an inappropriate idea that the current imagineers are coming up with. Even Walt and his team had many ideas that they brainstormed over but we’re abandoned because they didn’t meet the end goal of what Walt wanted, and Walt was always right. Everything he did lifted everyone who saw it to great feelings that what they were seeing was unique, incredible, and uplifting beyond what they could have ever imagined. In contrast, most of what the current imaginary staff is doing is falling flat, like a loaf of bread without the yeast (i.e., only fit for the trash). Take Tiana’s adventure, if you absolutely have to. The character animatronics look very nice, and the inside staging looks very pretty, but despite what the current Disney management is falsely claiming, there’s absolutely no story line. Moreover, the story from the movie really doesn’t fit that show building at all. In a word, it falls extremely flat, it’s boring as can be and it makes you wonder why you wasted the day going there, even if they let you in for free.
I was just at Columbia House 2 days ago. The food is awful and disgusting. The salmon was undercooked. The kids turkey sandwich was 1 slice of bread with edges cut off with 1 small slice of turkey and 1 slice cheese. It was dried out. Also disgusting. Came w 3 cherry tomatoes and a few dried apples slices. We got our money back for the salmon. Never going back. Why can’t DW get their act together when it comes to restaurants there. Letting my season pass expire this spring. Had enough of this place.
Still upset they the Monte Cristo sandwich away..
I’m still salty about the Lighthouse sandwich being gone, my favorite sandwich in all the parks. I miss it terribly.
Pay more and get less has become a standard. I’m still most sad about the Pecos Bill nachos change.
What a joke! Lower the price by a dollar, a dollar fifty, I guarantee you’ll still make money, and the guests won’t be as angry.
We’ve started bringing our own food to the parks. The park food is expensive and unhealthy and leaves us with heartburn.
I wasn’t a fan of that particular meal, but to take away that much and keep the price the same is pretty insulting. When there last week I had the children’s salmon platter and it was plenty of food. Will add hush puppies next time though. Plus we got that fabulous gingerbread cake, which needs to be on the menu permanently even though it’s a holiday treat.
I’m still salty they took away the beef with barley soup at Liberty Tree Tavern. It was amazing, made with that same wonderful roast, and it left after Covid. Sad day.
This change occurred over the summer. I ordered it in August and Cast Members confirmed the change when I questioned.
Changing the Trio platter at Columbia House is ridiculously heartbreaking! That menu was always our favorite that my husband and I shared. We noticed the change recently when we went to the park. I couldn’t care less about the hush puppies when they disappeared but husband enjoyed them. The raised the price and took away the best part of the meal & reduced the portions for more money. It’s GREED ON Disney’s part.
Also, the menu changes at Friars Nook is SAD too! It’s getting so there is any decent quick serve restaurants in Magic Kingdom. We are pass holder and have been for many years, it’s a shame what Disney is doing to many of their restaurants. This includes Pecos Bill’s the food there now sucks!
So sick of Disney squeezing money from us. It’s the little things like this that add up and just flat out turns you off. Honestly I don’t even go to this place anymore since they took off the harbor house sandwich. I don’t go to Pecos either since they took away the toppings bar. Again … the little things.
And yes to the person above, don’t even get me started on Tianas Bayou bore.
Splash Mountain didn’t deserve this.
Money Grubbing. Disney is the Master of it. Do Not Support it
Epic Universe is the Solution
I have always said, in over 50 years of going to the parks, the weakest link in the Disney vacation chain is the food. Mostly boring, under plated, over prices and just not that tasty or nourishing. I could run a better dining offer that Dianeynat a lower price and with higher quality. The ever changing piece of the Walt Disney legacy is the price, it never goes down and food only gets worse.
OK, the Columbia House is my favorite MK counter service restaurant. I would rather have a price increase then less food. But that’s me. I mean, we all know everything there is expensive and another buck or two won’t really be missed. It may be over thinking the price, but let’s face it everything there is high priced, may as well eat what you want. I don’t have a problem bringing your own food but carring it around could get old though.
My first visit to the Harbour Hose was in May 2024.
I found it pleasant and the staff was nice to me.
I had the Maple Salmon meal and was very pleased with it!
The dessert was a little too pricey as I was hoping it would have been a freebie since we ate there for my birthday lunch. Sad ?
Would I return, yes, because I liked my meal and I miss Walt Disney World.
Fixing my error:
Columbia Harbour House
Not only is the amount of protein less, but the fish is different. It is not a beer battered filet any more– its more like a deep fried fish stick. The salmon portions are tiny, and always either under or way over cooked. The shrimp are now poppers, vs the whole tail-on fried shrimp.
This has been my family’s go-to counter service restaraunt since I was a small child. You could always count on a decent fish basket, fresh and fast. Now I guess i will get my fish and chips in Epcot UK. Very sad for what has been done to Harbour House.
We know that Universal is the new theme park leader and Disney is the new follower. But even with following Universal’s business plan, Disney is doing it poorly and failing in several areas. I once thought Disney could never fail no mater what they did wrong, I’ve changed my mind.
Columbia Harbour House used to be excellent. It was a must-do for us. Plus getting out of the heat for a while was a major plus. Same for Pecos Bills in the old days. I recently ate at Pecos Bills and will admit that the rice bowl with beef and extra protein add-on pork was very good. The chicken was just OK. The beef was the best.
