Here at DFB, our team has had a plethora of embarrassing moments in the parks.
Whether it be wardrobe malfunctions, snack spills, or faceplanting in the middle of the walkway, we’ve been through quite a lot that we could tell you about. But, as they say, “a picture is worth a thousand words.” So today, we’re sharing our most embarrassing photos from Disney World!
Truth be told, we reached out to the team for photos and most of them were WAY tamer than we thought!! But still, in all their glory, here’s some of our team members’ silliest Disney moments.
On-Ride Photos
Most Disney fans out there come across an embarrassing ride photo every once in a while. However, the ones that our team sent in are some real doozies! Up first we have a coworker who really hates getting wet…can you guess which one she is? ? Unfortunately, this tactic didn’t work and she still got more soaked than any other person on the boat…Splash Mountain is mean like that.
Splash Mountain is honestly just asking to make funny ride photos. One of our Junior Editors thought she was going to bless the picture with her ridiculous shenanigans…only to be upstaged by the guy in the American flag shirt. Unfortunately, we’ve been outdone!
Here at DFB, we’re pretty frequent Disney visitors. One of the perks that come with that is getting to know where all of the ride cameras are located (or so we thought!). We were so confident that it was on the left side and boy were we wrong. That’s embarrassing! Nothing like playing to the (wrong) camera!!
If you can believe it, some of our DFB reporters aren’t actually huge fans of rollercoasters! Here you can see one reporter (far left) hanging on for dear life while riding Space Mountain. The things we do for our jobs, right?
It would appear as though one of our writers wasn’t very scared during her last trip to the Haunted Mansion, and instead had this sort of deadpan look on her face. Perhaps its time for the 999 happy haunts to step up their game if they want to really frighten us!
Some Disney World attractions are truly out of this world, and we love heading over to Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom to see our pal Buzz. Our social media director couldn’t be bothered with Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin on her last visit, though. Was it something Buzz said?!
The final plummet on Splash Mountain is no small feat at 50-feet tall, and it looks like our DFB writer (top left) had some concerns when it finally came to the drop. She wasn’t the only one ready for her close-up, though, someone is even taking a nap back there!
Another approach to Buzz Lightyear is shown here by our administrative assistant, who clearly takes this ride very seriously. So seriously, in fact, that she tried to block her opponent’s view to gain more points. We like the commitment to the craft.
We’re always telling readers to expect the unexpected in Disney World, and apparently that translates to on-ride photos as well! One of our DFB writers was caught off-guard while riding Dinosaur in Animal Kingdom.
But even though we’ve been caught in some embarrassing scenarios by Disney World ride cameras, those aren’t all the photos we have in our digital scrapbooks of awkward memories!
Character Encounters
We’ve had some pretty uncomfortable run-ins with Disney characters over the years, typically thanks to our own doing. We like to caption the following photo “when you realize that it’s not really Adam Driver in there.” Rough day.
Have you ever loved something soooo much but it didn’t love you back? That’s the case with Drizella and the daughter of one of our reporters. Clearly, they’re both having very different reactions to this encounter. ?
They say, “never meet your heroes” and in the case of this DFB reporter meeting Goofy… it might be true. She was so starstruck she didn’t even know what to do with herself!
Throwback
Now, let’s discuss throwback pics in general. Here’s one from Disney World’s 15th Anniversary, when they had a giant (square?) birthday cake by the EPCOT entrance plaza. We have nothing to say except that it was the 80s…all of our photos were awkward back then.
Have you ever done the photo studios in Disney World? Well, one of our coworkers got some really fun and umm…unique snapshots out of it. ? Back when the Star Wars prequels were hot stuff, it was all the rage to dress up like Padme. We just didn’t realize Natalie Portman would be watching us do it like she’s Mufasa in the sky!
Disney called it a “Pirate Party” and obviously, we did NOT agree. You know those kids that you see in Disney World and they are definitely not digging the vibe? Well, it turns out that even those kids can grow up to be professional Disney superfans. Parents, don’t lose hope!
Remember the good ole days at EPCOT when Journey Into Imagination included a character called The Dreamfinder or was that just a fever dream we had? Just kidding, it definitely happened and here is one of our reporters with him as photographic proof.
Okay, while this throwback photo might not be inherently embarrassing, the 1980s as a whole were kind of embarrassing, so this still counts.
Oh, retro Disney. You were such a magical time. Such a strange time. Nothing screams “Disneyland” like… dressing up in patriotic clothing with your entire family and posing on the caboose of a train, right? Right?
The 2000s were a weird time of duck faces and peace signs, all of which were gloriously documented through the new feature we called social media. Yeah…we’ll never live this one down! (At least we got a pic with Ducky Momo — 10 points to whoever can tell us where he’s from!)
And speaking of the 2000s — did we mention that we were the epitome of style? One of our writers shared this photo from her family’s visit to the Spirit of Aloha dinner show. Would you just check out those shades?!
We still don’t understand how this look didn’t immediately qualify her to be a Disney Channel star. They really missed out!
Awkward and Unfortunate Circumstances
Even the self-proclaimed experts aren’t prepared for EVERYTHING in Disney World. Apparently, this picture was included in that. Based on this photo, we’re not convinced our editor had ever seen a camera before. ?
Ya know those selfies that you took that stay buried on your phone until your coworker asks to see embarrassing pictures? Well, don’t show them to her because she WILL use them in her article. (Muahahaha! *evil laugh*)
It’s no secret that we’re pretty passionate about food over here, we are Disney Food Blog after all! So when our DFB writer was caught absolutely inhaling this Ronto Wrap in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge we just knew we had to include it in this post.
Remember that trend where everyone inexplicably HAD to include the cup of whatever they were drinking in the photo they were taking? Just us? Well, it looks like one of our writers was a big fan of that trend.
How much popcorn is too much popcorn? The limit does not exist, and it especially ceases to exist when there is an absolutely adorable, limited-edition popcorn bucket on the line. We totally didn’t wait hours for this thing or anything…
Hotel rooms are kinda like airports when it comes to weird things people do — want a cocktail at 7AM? Sure. Full breakfast when you get in at midnight? Absolutely. Apparently one of our social media creators likes to do this in Disney hotel rooms to express just how excited she is.
Have you ever heard anyone say that Splash Mountain isn’t really a water ride? Do you want to know a secret? Those people are liars. Splash Mountain is not only a water ride, but you run the risk of getting VERY wet, as evidenced in this photo of our social media manager.
And that’s a wrap on some of our team’s most embarrassing Disney World photos! We hope you enjoyed this slideshow of weird and that it reminded you that even the experts have unfortunate experiences in the theme parks!
