Magic Kingdom has so much going on right now; it’s a bit overwhelming!
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed for at least a year for refurbishment, Villains Land is in progress behind Big Thunder, and there are TWO new lounges currently being built in the park — one is a DVC Lounge in Frontierland and the other is the highly-anticipated Pirates Tavern in Adventureland. We haven’t known a ton about the new Frontierland Lounge, McKim’s Mile House, for quite some time, but now a new permit has been filed that gives us just a LITTLE more information!
Walt Disney Imagineering just filed a permit for McKim’s Mile House to install the signage for the new lounge! The permit extends to a year from when it was filed, which will, therefore, be February 5th, 2026.
This was originally the home of the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade but went under construction at the end of June 2024 to begin its transformation into the new lounge. The lounge will be open by Summer 2025, but no date has been set yet.
The name of the lounge, McKim’s Mile House, is most likely a reference to two separate things. The first half of the name is likely inspired by Disney Legend Sam McKim, who designed the Disneyland souvenir maps issued between 1958 and 1964. The second half of the lounge’s name, “Mile House,” was a term that was used back during the Gold Rush to help mark a building that was a mile from some important destination.
Based on the concept art we’ve seen, we feel everything fits very well with the time period, and works well with the Frontierland theme as a whole. We’re looking forward to seeing this lounge when it’s complete, but since it is a DVC lounge, only Disney Vacation Club members will be able to visit when it opens.

Another gift for owners, another thing taken away from faithful Disney visitors. Oh well, most of Frontierland will be paved over soon in the pursuit of progress. A true loss to everyone but Disney does not seem to care. Sad.
