While Disney World might be the most magical place on Earth, that doesn’t mean that nothing bad ever happens in the park.
The Orlando area theme parks receive millions of visitors each and every year. And while we wish it was always sunshine and daisies, injuries do happen at Disney World, Universal, and SeaWorld.
A report is released each quarter that goes over the injuries reported at the theme parks. Major Florida theme parks are required to self-report serious injuries where visitors are injured on a ride and are hospitalized for at least 24 hours. Now that we are in 2025, we have ALL the numbers for 2024.
This report does not include minor injuries or any requiring hospitalization for less than 24 hours. So, keep that in mind as we discuss the data; it only covers the more serious injuries.
That said, you might be surprised how many serious injuries were reported in 2024. In 2024, 46 serious injuries were reported by Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld.
While you always want to be careful and know your body’s limitations for rides, it is good to know that the number of serious injuries last year was only 46 for the combined three theme parks. Always make sure you are reading warning signs, checking in with your body, listening to Cast Members, and being cautious as you experience attractions. Not all injuries can be prevented, but taking the time to be a bit more cautious is never a bad idea.
Only three rides reported three serious injuries in 2024, and that was the highest amount reported for ANY ride. The following rides had three injuries: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Jurassic World VelociCoaster, and Space Mountain.
Hagrid’s Magical Creature Motorbike Adventure, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, Revenge of the Mummy, TRON Lightcycle / Run, Frozen Ever After, Spaceship Earth, and Kilimanjaro Safaris all had two serious injuries reported in 2024. After that, every other attraction had either only one or no injuries reported in 2024.
We want to reiterate that these injuries are only the type that require hospitalization for more than 24 hours. If someone scraped their knee, put a band-aid on, and continued their day, it wouldn’t have been included in this report.
The good news is that injuries are pretty rare when you consider just how many people ride the attractions each year. However, that doesn’t mean you should throw caution out the window. Make sure you are being safe as you are having fun at the theme parks.
