Dining at Disney World can be overwhelming because you’ve got a TON of options. Want something quick and easy? You’ve got it. Something middle of the road and comforting? Yep, that too. And if you’re looking for something upscale and luxurious, you can find that as well.
We recently stopped by the Italy Pavilion at EPCOT to check out some new menu items available at a few different spots there, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. Is it worth a stop on your next trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth? Find out here!
We’re headed to the Italy Pavilion to sample some new and old favorites from the restaurants located here, including Via Napoli, Tutto Italia, Gelateria Toscana, and the Primavera Kitchen booth at the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival.
Our first stop was Primavery Kitchen — the Flower & Garden booth from this pavilion. We tried the Mezzalune Croccanti e Polpette: Crispy Half-Moon Breaded Mozzarella Ravioli, Beef and Pork Meatballs, Pomodoro Sauce, and Parmesan. It was really delicious. The ravioli itself was nice and soft, and the outside was crispy and a little bit chewy, and then the meatball was rich, meaty, and very well seasoned, with a little bit of garlic to it. So all in all, this was a really good dish. It was a decent portion and something we would actually get again.
From Via Napoli, we had the Prosciutto e Melone pizza that’s been on their menu since the beginning. It’s one of their most popular pizzas, and it has prosciutto, arugula, and cantaloupe on it. The cantaloupe was bright and fruity, and then the prosciutto had that deep meatiness to it and a little bit of salt. And then you have the earthy brightness from that arugula. They all just pair really well together. It’s a little bit hard to eat because the prosciutto and the cantaloupe are in gigantic slices on this pizza. So you really have to bite and kind of like rip each slice of the pizza, which is a little bit annoying if you’re used to very American-style pizza, but the crust was delightful, light, and fluffy.
Then we also had the Mozzarella Caprese salad appetizer, which is tomato slices with fresh mozzarella and olive oil on top, and this was very bright, very fresh. Both the cheese and the tomato were incredibly fresh, and we could slice through them with my knife like butter. Very delicious, very simple overall, and if you want some very classic Italian eats, this might be a good choice for you during your visit.
The other drink we tried was the Dolce Vita. This one also had raspberry syrup in it, but it was very strong on the soda water. We could see someone enjoying this on a really hot day.
We sampled two different drinks available at Via Napoli. The Frozen Vulcano was a non-alcoholic drink, and it’s essentially like a frozen Piña Colada with a little raspberry syrup in it. If you’ve ever had a Piña CoLAVA at Disney World, it was kind of like that without the booze! It was sweet, but not too sweet, and very fruity. Kids would probably love this because when you stir it and mix it together, it kind of bubbles up like a volcano, which we thought was really neat.
We also learned about a new and exclusive beer only available at Tutto Gusto and Tutto Italia — the Sorsi d’Oro Italian Pilsner. We didn’t sample this one, but it’s described as a light pilsner.
At Tutto Italia, we started with a Shrimp Risotto, which is not part of their summer prix fixe menu (more on that later!). This was just something that they let us sample, and our major complaint was that the shrimp annoyingly had the tail on. This is a peeve of ours, especially when you stick the shrimp in something. We didn’t want to pull the shrimp out of the risotto and peel the tail off of it. But the shrimp was large, very juicy, had a little bit of bite to it when you bit in, like it kind of popped in your mouth. It was just a pretty decent piece of gigantic shrimp with the tail still on. The risotto itself had some cucumber in it and some pesto. It was earthy, it was creamy. It was bright and fresh. It kind of tasted like the color green, and it was delicious. We would eat a bowl of this risotto by itself, very, very good risotto.
In some seriously exciting news, Tutto Italia is introducing a prix fixe menu for the summer! It will debut sometime in May or June and will last through August. This is a summer menu that they are doing for lunch only, and it is $29 for three courses, which is a pretty great deal. Now, the platings are slightly smaller than the regular platings at the restaurant, but we were able to see the sizes of all the offerings, and they still look quite substantial!
For our appetizer, we tried the Caesar Salad, and our reporter said that this was one of the best Caesar salads she’d ever had in her life. They give you so much dressing. The Parmesan cheese is in shaved slices on top, which was really good — it was creamy and nutty, and the lettuce was nice and crunchy and crisp and fresh, and then you’ve got little croutons throughout. They were a little bit hard, but we were still able to stab them with our fork, so this was a winner for us.
Also available with the prix fixe is a Fior Di Latte Caprese. This version of a caprese salad was a slice of mozzarella, olive oil, and then tiny little tomatoes on top. So it was a bit different. The tomatoes are definitely more kind of in your face because you’re like biting an actual half of a tomato, but the cheese, once again, was soft and cheesy. We would choose the Caesar Salad over this one, though!
We also sampled some of the pastas from the prix fixe menu. The Penne Garibaldi was delicious. The Garibaldi sauce is apparently the chef’s favorite sauce because it has several different elements — a tomato base, but it’s also got some onion in there, and it was very rich, very flavorful, with lots of depth to this. It didn’t just feel like you were eating penne with tomato sauce. It was kind of like a level up from that.
Then we had the Fettuccine Alfredo, which was so, so creamy, and the noodles were soft. Not al dente, definitely soft noodles on this, but it was not as heavy as other fettuccine alfredos that we’ve had, and we really appreciated that. It wasn’t too much cream or too much cheese. It was just, it was light. It was a nice amount of creaminess that wasn’t too overwhelming.
Over at Gelateria Toscana, we tried the Caffe Shakerato, which is an Italian-style shaken coffee — and it’s essentially an espresso martini without the martini. So instead of the alcohol, they put vanilla gelato in it. The gelato does not really tone down the overall coffee flavor of the drink, so it’s very coffee-forward. We would recommend this, maybe more for somebody who is a coffee lover and who wants something iced and chilly for a hot day.
We tried the Iced Americano, which they make with espresso, 2% milk, water, and newly on the menu at this location — you can now get your coffee with different flavored syrups, so we tried the hazelnut. It was definitely an iced Americano — strong, in your face with the coffee flavor and slightly sweet from the hazelnut.
Make sure you stop by the Italy Pavilion’s dining spots, including Via Napoli, Tutto Italia, Gelateria Toscana, and the Primavera Kitchen booth to see what’s new!
