BIG things are happening in Disney World, which means we’re getting ready for a lot of change.
We’re already seeing big changes in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, as parts of DinoLand U.S.A. have closed to start making way for Pueblo Esperanza, a Tropical Americas-themed land. Magic Kingdom will soon be closing Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America to make way for a new Cars expansion in Frontierland. In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Muppets Courtyard will be closing soon to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. land. That means that everything IN Muppets Courtyard will also close, including one iconic restaurant.
The first thing set to close in Muppets Courtyard is Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, which we’ve previously said is sorta’ like Hollywood Studios’ version of Olive Garden. The restaurant will be closing on May 11th, meaning your last chance to dine here will be on May 10th.
Mama Melrose’s will be the first of closures in Muppets Courtyard. Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo will close on June 7th, while all of Muppets Courtyard will be closed off with construction walls on June 8th. Yep, it’s really happening, and we’ll have to say goodbye to the Muppets in Hollywood Studios SOON.
The new Monsters, Inc. land will bring a NEW ride to Hollywood Studios, which will be based on the door chase sequence in the film. It will also be the first suspended roller coaster in Disney World.
Disney has not yet revealed an opening date for the new land, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for updates, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

Was Mama Melrose’s a must-do restaurant for you? Let us know in the comments!
I know it wasn’t for everyone, but Mama Melrose’s WAS a must do for us. We loved the classic Hollywood theming, and the mac & cheese that was served with the NY strip there was fabulous. The Italian fare was, ironically, usually a little lacking, but this was one of the best places for a steak in the parks. There is/was what looked like a lot of genuine memorabilia in there – I hope that’s not just demolished. Maybe it was all fake, but I doubt it. At the time, it would have probably cost less to get the real thing than to create fakes. We will miss it! And Muppet Courtyard.
A “Cars” attraction DOES NOT belong in Frontierland at Walt Disney World. The Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island Does. I don’t think they ever had cars in the old frontiers of America.
I wish there was a way to save the Riverboat but as the saying goes “You Can’t Fight Disney World”
