One group of Disney World hotels has a DICEY reputation.
Yep, we’re talking about the All-Star Resorts! This trio of resorts have sports, music, and movie themes, and they’re the cheapest hotels available in Disney World. That price point means that they’re definitely not the fanciest places to stay on property, and therefore, they have quite a few haters. But we’re here to tell you why All-Star Movies Resort isn’t really all that bad.
If you check out the All-Star Movies Resort reviews over on the AllEars.net website (wave “hi” to our friends at AllEars!), you’ll find quite a few people who had disappointing experiences at the hotel. One person gave the hotel a 3 out of 10, saying:
“This hotel is weird. The dining options are really bad, with only a pool bar and a food court. Also, the rooms have only a curtain separating the main part of the room and the bathroom. I get that it’s a value/cheap resort, but Disney should at least put some effort into the rooms! When my family of 4 stayed in these rooms, we heard all the noise from the bathroom. Most rooms are also noisy from the outside. You can also only rely on buses, which sucks. I don’t recommend this hotel. If you need to stay at the All-Stars, go to All-Star Music.”
This is a pretty common opinion for any of the All-Star Resorts, with people finding them “cheap” in theme and boring compared to other Disney World hotels. But honestly? There were some things about All-Star Movies that actually impressed me!
They’re Affordable
First of all, this resort is AFFORDABLE. The three All-Star hotels are the cheapest hotels on property, and their prices range from $133-$305 per night for a standard room, and from $169-$352 per night for a Preferred Room in 2025.
By staying here instead of at a Moderate or Deluxe Resort, you could save enough money over the course of your vacation to splurge a bit in the parks. We’ve known some people to choose the All-Stars so that they could get the Disney Dining Plan or pay extra for the Lightning Lane Premier Pass. Also, if you’re the type of person who spends ALL day in the parks, you may not need to spend money on a luxury hotel.

The Rooms Are Updated
The next thing that was impressive to me is that the hotel rooms here are recently updated. All of the All-Stars got room refurbishments in the past few years, and it makes a HUGE difference in the quality of your hotel stay here. Fresh flooring, new beds, updated theming, and new bathroom fixtures all keep this hotel from looking as dingy as it was before.
The new rooms have a generic Mickey and friends theme, which your kids will probably enjoy, and they come with more storage, more outlets for your electronics, and just a generally more modern vibe. If you stayed at All-Star Movies several years ago, you’ll likely be impressed by this change the next time you visit.

The Outside Theming Is Fun
Even though all the rooms are the same inside, All-Star Movies is home to some super cool theming on the exterior of the hotel buildings. Each section of the resort has a theme with a different Disney movie — Toy Story, Herbie: The Love Bug, The Mighty Ducks, Fantasia, and 101 Dalmatians.
Walking around the resort and exploring the various sections is a lot of fun, and Disney has put some impressive detail into the buildings and props. Personally, I like this theme the best of the three All-Star Resorts, and your kids likely will as well!

You Get Three Resorts in One
And one thing that the All-Star Resorts have that no other resorts on Disney World property have? Three hotels in one! The All-Star Resorts are all on one giant property, so it’s easy to walk between them for dining, shopping, or exploring. And they’re the only three hotels that you can pool hop between!
That’s right, if you’re staying at All-Star Movies, you can use the pools at your resort, as well as the pools at All-Star Sports and All-Star Music (but ONLY those three). Guests of other hotels around Disney World are limited to their own resort’s pools.
In conclusion, All-Star Movies is certainly not Disney World’s most glamorous resort, but it definitely has its perks. It serves a specific audience, and it can be a great way to do Disney World on a budget!

This one is our “go to” if we can’t score a discount or dvc points for Animal Kingdom Lodge, or if we try to sneak in a 2nd visit in a calendar year. Proper non deluxe expectations would put this resort in proper perspective and reveal the positives it has to offer.
I stayed here in Dec. 2023 and loved it! The room was nice, a little noisy but I used the blackout curtains. The food was good
We have stayed at all 3 ASRs, and Movies is definitely our favorite! The outside theming is great, and from what I can recall (although I think it’s changed), the central building theming is pretty good too. The rooms are pretty bland, but most WDW resort rooms are. And – when we stayed at ASM – we weren’t overrun by band or sports groups. I avoid Sports and Music at any time during the school year just to make sure that doesn’t happen again. I agree with Steve – there needs to be acceptance of what will be true for the cost tradeoff. Yes, Value Resorts on property cost the same as some much nicer accomodations off property. But they’re still the lowest cost option on property, and there’s still a lot to love.
Last summer my family of four “lived” at All Star Sports for nearly a month – special circumstances as the home we were purchasing was delayed. We did go to the parks, but not often. Mostly, we wandered through the All Star resorts, made our way to the Skyliner to go sight seeing, and lounged in the pools.
The odd thing, is we stayed there because it was the least expensive option that fit our needs. Obviously, Disney isn’t known as budget friendly, but My Favorite Cast Member booked us with her discount. It was great family time.
I love the All Stars. I’d rather stay longer than stay nicer and the All Stars let me do that. Plus, I eat just about all of my dinners at the my resort food court and enjoy sitting and reading in the food court like would the Starbucks near my home. And, these food courts have comfortable seating. I also like that you pass by the food court and gift shop on the way to and from the busses which makes stopping to refill my mug or grab a snack going or coming quick and easy. I very rarely do a table service dinner and don’t use the pool, and I’m not going to take advantage of those and any additional amenities at a more expensive resort. So, why waste money on things I won’t use?
I stayed at All-Star Movies 2 years ago for my first trip back to Disney since 2008 with my niece (7) who was on her first trip. We absolutely loved it. We spent the first day on property just getting pics and enjoying the resort. My niece even really enjoyed the arcade located just inside the lobby. We were there for 5 nights with 1 day in each park. My niece really enjoyed also having the Murphy bed all to herself ?
Ear plugs are a must in order to sleep at a Value Resort. You can hear all exterior noise, and noise from other guest rooms.
Madalyn, hit the parks harder, your clearly not exhausted enough when you get back to the resort.
Just kidding, you are right…sound deadening was clearly omitted from the original construction budget. How many toilet flushes have YOU counted at 6am. Its almost a symphony, no?
