We’re revealing what it’s REALLY like to cruise with Disney!
With the recent release of Disney Treasure back in December, along with the up-and-coming releases of the Disney Adventure and Disney Destiny, we guess you could say the Disney Cruise Line has been a hot topic for MANY lately — especially those planning upcoming vacations. If you’re curious about dining aboard a Disney cruise ship — and what the dress code looks like — you’ve come to the right place!
Word on the street — or the seas, in this case — is that you don’t ALWAYS have to dress fancy for dinner when sailing aboard a Disney Cruise Line ship. But just how true is this statement?
As it turns out, pretty darn true! When you eat dinner on your Disney Cruise, you can make things as casual or as fancy as you’d like them to be.
On a 3 or 4-night cruise, things stay pretty “cruise casual” in the dining rooms. With that said, you still can’t show up in your swimwear or tank tops, so keep that in mind.
However, on Pirate Night — which is a specialty-themed night that happens on EVERY cruise ship and wraps up your evening with a specialty pirate dance party — you can (if you so desire) dress up like a pirate!
There will also be an OPTIONAL dress-up night where you can wear your nice jacket, pantsuit, or dress that you’ve been wanting to show off.
Now, on a 7-night cruise, there’ll be a formal and semi-formal night that you can choose to take part in, too. Though, once again, it’s not a requirement if you don’t WANT to dress up all fancy with your crew.
The only restaurants onboard the ships that are a little more strict when it comes to dress codes are going to be the adults-only, high-end restaurants that you’ll pay extra for.
Those restaurants are as follows:
- Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement — Disney Wish, Deck 12
- Palo — Disney Magic, Deck 10; Disney Wonder, Deck 10; Disney Dream, Deck 12; Disney Fantasy, Deck 12
- Palo Steakhouse – Disney Wish, Deck 12
- Remy – Disney Dream, Deck 12; Disney Fantasy, Deck 12

I like getting dressed up for dinner. My first trip to Florida in 1995 was an eye opener. Till that point I had only been to Europe and every one gets dressed up. I don’t mean black tie and evening dress, just something that you haven’t been wearing all day. Dress and trousers, never shorts and t-shirt. I took nice clothes to Florida with me and was shocked how casual everyone was at dinner.
That’s one of the things I love about a Disney cruise. That there IS an opportunity to dress up and look smarter. If I go to a beautiful restaurant it’s nice to make an effort.
