While Epic Universe hasn’t even celebrated its official opening day yet, the company has already confirmed plans for a brand-new theme park—this time, across the pond in the UK. And thanks to a fresh trademark filing, we’ve got a clue that one of the iconic franchises is getting ready to make its mark over there. Buckle up—this one’s revving up fast!
According to a recent trademark filing, Universal has secured the rights to use Back To The Future in their newest theme park, which will be located near Bedford. The trademark covers everything from rides and attractions to live performances and play areas.

Fans of the franchise might remember the classic Back to the Future: The Ride, which debuted at Universal Studios Florida in 1991 and was later retired in 2007 to make room for The Simpsons Ride. Since then, the Back to the Future brand has lived on at the parks through merchandise, character meet and greets, and special events. Now, the potential of another Back to the Future experience is possible once more thanks to this newest filing.

So what exactly is in the works for this exciting new project coming to Europe? According to official plans from Universal Destinations & Experiences, this won’t just be a simple theme park. The project includes a full-blown resort featuring:
- A world-class theme park
- A 500-room hotel
- A retail, dining, and entertainment complex
Universal has already purchased 476 acres of land for the project, but they may expand even further. The company is considering acquiring more land to bring the total size up to around 700 acres, which would allow for improved transport links and potentially more room for immersive lands and attractions.

While Back to the Future is now officially trademarked for the theme park’s use, there are also whispers of other major franchises potentially joining the lineup—James Bond, Paddington, and even The Lord of the Rings are all rumored contenders. Surprisingly, one iconic UK-based franchise that is not expected to be included is Harry Potter, despite having a massive presence at Universal’s U.S. parks. We’ll just have to wait and see for official announcements from Universal!

I lost a lot of love for Universal when they closed the Back to the Future ride and have only been back once since. The Simpson ride is good but I don’t love it in the same way that I love BTTF. Whether this new ride is the same or different I don’t mind. I love it already and only live a 2 hour drive away from Bedford.
