Disney’s Animal Kingdom is such an underrated park. Although part of it is under construction right now as DinoLand, U.S.A. becomes a new land called Pueblo Esperanza, a visit to Animal Kingdom is worth the time during your next Disney trip.
The beauty of Animal Kingdom is that it’s WAY more than just rides. It’s a chance to get up close and personal with the animals that call the park home. And the thing is…new animals join the ranks of Animal Kingdom all the time. Well, we now have to tell you about some newcomers to the park — and trust us, you’re going to love this news because these latest additions are newborns.
So, some babies have recently been born in Disney World. The first of these babies are some baby otters, who have officially made their Animal Kingdom debut. Here’s a photo of them with their parents, Kevin and Mae.
Their names? Butternut, Biscuit, and Potato (WE CAN’T EVEN). They are Asian small-clawed otters, meaning they’re the smallest species of otter. You know us — we love anything miniature here at DFB!
These babies were born back in December, but they’re now at Otter Grotto waiting to be seen while their parents, teach them how to swim and do otter things.
These otters aren’t the only babies in Disney World, though. A Rüppell’s griffon vulture has also been born in nearby Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Her name is Lyra, and Disney’s animal care experts have been taking good care of her from the moment that she was an egg. Her parents, John and Janet (y’all, these names!), have also been taking good care of her.
What’s remarkable about little Lyra, though, is that these birds are critically endangered in the wild. So Lyra is somewhat of a miracle! You’ll want to keep an eye out for her and her family the next time you visit Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Stay tuned to DFB for more.

Right now AK is just an overpriced zoo!! That ticket price is the worst value for your money. Definitely needs more attractions. Hopefully even after they add the new area they add a little more to that park. Hollywood (MGM) studios used to be the park to skip. Now it is most definitely Animal Kingdom!!
A few years ago now my grandson and I saw Stella the then baby elephant on the Animal Kingdom safari . She was just on the safari at that time .
It’s wonderful to see her grow every time we come to WDW .
We haven’t been in Dinoland in years. When we go to AK, we head straight for Kilimanjaro Safari. From there, it’s Dawa Bar outside of Tusker House and then the Festival of The Lion King. We then go through Pandora to Nomad Lounge for a drink and some snacks. Then, as we’re in our 70s, it’s back to the room for a nap.
