Is it too early to start thinking about Christmas?
If you ask Disney World, the answer is no. Disney knows a thing or two about celebrating all holidays… especially early. In most cases, we see Halloween decorations start popping up in early August, but hey, we aren’t complaining!
Well, we have some good and, unfortunately, bad news for those who have been patiently waiting for Disney World to transform into a winter wonderland.
The Grand Floridian has been refurbishing rooms, dining areas, stores, and even the lobby, and now, another enhancement has been announced for this iconic resort!
Later this year, the Grand Floridian lobby will undergo yet another transformation. This Victorian-style hotel is known for its birdcage in the lobby and cage-style elevator. The birdcage will be transformed into a new lobby bar, but don’t worry, the cage elevator will remain! In addition to the lobby bar, the lobby will get new carpeting and a refresh of the staircase and front desk. Construction is planned to start this month and end in November. So what’s the bad news?
Typically, the beginning of November marks the start of the Christmas season at Disney World. For 25 years, the Grand Floridian lobby has been home to a life-sized gingerbread house. This house is so big that Cast Members can work inside to sell you delicious gingerbread and holiday-inspired treats. Sadly, since lobby refurbishments are set to start this November, it was confirmed that there would not be enough room to house this fan-favorite Christmas tradition.
The good news is that it was confirmed that other gingerbread displays WOULD be making their return at other resorts. We typically see displays at the Contemporary, BoardWalk Inn, Yacht Club, Beach Club, and Animal Kingdom Lodge. While we are sad that the Grand Floridian will lose its 25-year tradition for the 2025 Christmas season, we are still glad that there will be gingerbread displays around certain resorts.
Who knows, maybe the Spaceship Earth gingerbread display will make its return to the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays at CommuniCore Hall this year.
The Halloween and Christmas seasons are not too far away at Disney World, and we here at the Disney Food Blog can’t wait for this year’s treats, entertainment, and decorations! To stay up to date on the latest Disney news, continue to follow along with DFB!

So glad about all the other gingerbread displays…spaceship earth fantastic….So disappointed about Grand Floridian. It’s gorgeous as is…..if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Nor should it take months, ruining Christmas. We definitely do not need a bar in the lobby!!! What on earth is Disney thinking??? Walt must be spinning in his grave…..
I love all the seasons at wdw but prefer to go when it’s less crowded ☺ so sometimes it’s the time of day rather than the holiday or festival!
