Summer 2025 is shaping up to be packed at Disney World.
We’re talking new shows, exclusive experiences just for little ones, both water parks open at the same time (finally), and even more characters out and about. Whether you’ve got tiny Mouseketeers in tow or you’re just looking to try something new, this summer’s going to bring a bunch of fresh reasons to visit. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s coming, what to look out for, and why now might be the best time to start planning.
Two Brand-New Shows Are Coming May 27th
Mark your calendar: The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After both officially debut at Hollywood Studios on May 27, 2025. That’s a double premiere in one park, which we don’t get often. Expect updated tech and new musical numbers.
The Little Mermaid show is going to be a totally reimagined version of the previous one, so this isn’t just a small refresh.
And Villains fans — finally, we’re getting a stage show focused on the baddies. Disney’s been leaning more into villain content lately, and this one sounds like a fun, not-too-scary twist.
Magic Kingdom’s Getting Something Sparkly and New
Later this summer, Magic Kingdom will debut Disney Starlight and we can’t wait. Disney has shared that the parade will be “brought to life by the magic of the Blue Fairy” from the animated classic, Pinocchio.
We know that there will be characters from Encanto, Frozen, and Peter Pan, too, If you’re heading there after dark, keep your eyes peeled — this one could be a highlight.
Summer Fun for Families With Little Kids
Starting May 27 through September 1, Disney is adding some limited-time experiences that are very kid-focused. So if you’re traveling with little ones, this is something you’ll want to factor in. In Magic Kingdom, Storybook Circus and Tomorrowland will have new “kid zones.” These will include character interactions (hello, Stitch!), activities, and more reasons to slow down and let your kids run around a bit.
Over at EPCOT, once the Flower and Garden Festival wraps up, Goofy is taking over CommuniCore Hall with a full-on game party and play space. Yes, it’s indoors. Yes, there’s air conditioning. And yes, Goofy will be the main host. This is a great way to escape the heat and still let the kids have a blast.
Also good to know: characters will be showing up in the parks earlier than normal for guests staying at Disney Resort hotels. That means during early entry, you might get even more character time than usual, so keep your camera ready.
Water Parks — Both of Them — Are Back Together Again
It’s been a long time since we’ve seen both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach open at the same time, but from May 21 to September 7, 2025, they’ll both be up and running. This hasn’t happened since 2019, and if you’re a water park fan, this is huge.
Even better? Every Disney Resort hotel guest gets free water park admission on their arrival day. So if you’re checking in this summer, maybe skip the parks that first day and hit the slides instead.
You’ll get a fun (and cool) start to your trip without needing a park reservation or worrying about Lightning Lanes.
Bottom Line
There’s a lot happening this summer at Disney World, especially if you’re traveling with kids or looking to check out new entertainment. Between new shows, pop-up experiences, earlier character time, and both water parks open, it’s one of the most packed summer lineups we’ve seen in a while.

Oh man! My wife booked us a “staycation” in July for us and our two kids but we don’t have any park days planned. She said maybe a one-day ticket with park hopper but that’s not enough time for all the parks and for them to do all of this new stuff!
