Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is continuing with its multi-year refurbishment that has included updates for Victoria & Albert’s, Cítricos, Narcoossee’s, and 1900 Park Fare. Next up on the list is the LOBBY! That’s right, the Grand Floridian lobby is getting a makeover.
Walking into the Grand Floridian’s lobby is a magical feeling. From the towering ceilings to the delicate accents throughout, and sometimes even some beautiful piano music, the lobby transports you with its Victorian charm. Disney Imagineers are approaching the updates carefully to maintain the “heart and story of the Grand Floridian, while adding fresh new life to the lobby for guests to enjoy,” and we just got a FIRST LOOK!
Disney Imagineers will refresh the lobby, staircase, and front desk and introduce a brand-new lobby bar. The lobby will feature brand-new carpeting with Victorian-inspired borders and scrollwork, “featuring hand-drawn florals inspired by turn-of-the-century botanical studies.”
The furnishings will also be updated to blend rich finishes with brass accents while still being cozy. The updates will also include botanical accents and inviting colors “to create an airy, garden-like atmosphere. ” While we love the current lobby, we are excited for it to get an update, and we can’t wait to see what the space looks like when it is finished.

Any idea of the timing of this? We’re going at the beginning of June for our honeymoon and it would be lovely if it was finished and kind of a mood-killer (maybe not “killer” but at least a drag) to have a bunch of construction in the lobby when we arrive.
Thanks for any info you have!
I’m visiting in May and was never informed of the lobby renovation. My daughter in law who has cancer had her heart set on The Grand Floridian and now is very disappointed. This was a dream vacation for her and the children
Love it! As a DVC VGF owner, the lobby has needed an update. This image sticks true to the property. This is very exciting!
That lobby bar looked so out of place. They could really do without that.
Didn’t they just redo the lobby a couple years ago? So I guess the big news here is that are turning the “birdcage” area, which was purely decorative and atmospheric, into a cash-generating piece of indoor real estate. Typical. I miss the original. Bring back the live band and afternoon tea!
I’m also going later this year and FINALLY staying here, and am also disappointed because there was no warning (does anyone know the dates???).
Disney suddenly pushing all the construction that was delayed or killed at one time (possibly to keep up with universal or to justify the sky high price increases) to be so wide spread and impactful for years is truly disappointing.
Will Garden View tea be part of the new lobby? Always my favorite part of a Disney trip.
Hate it. And I’ve been a fan (and guest) of the Grand Floridian since my very first WDW vacation way back in the 1990s. The new changes are off-putting, and as someone has already said, that lobby bar looks out of place. Come on, Disney; you could do sooooo much better than the horrible design you’ve put forth in your artist renderings. Fire your design team and hire a new one. One that could easily come up with at least 50 different ways to pleasingly redesign the Grand Floridian’s lobby.
