If there’s one thing we know about Disney fans, it’s that we always have opinions on the popular Disney trend of the moment.
Whether that trend comes in the form of a new ride, an over-the-top souvenir, or a sudden change to a beloved attraction, there’s no shortage of debates in the Disney community. With all that in mind, we wanted to find out from you which popular Disney trends you weren’t too keen on, and boy oh boy, you delivered.
We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “What popular Disney trend can you not stand?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!
Now, let’s dive into some of your top responses!
“Matching shirts… every single park.”
Steph kicked us off with: “People spending hundreds on custom shirts to be made so that everyone can match at every single park… you do you, it’s just not for me. That’s lightning lane money.”
We’ve all seen the massive family groups rocking their matching shirts, and while it’s a fun way to celebrate a vacation, it’s definitely not for everyone. Some people love the coordination, others feel like it’s an unnecessary expense. Either way, if you’re going to do it, at least make sure it’s a comfortable shirt because the Florida heat is no joke.
“Everything becoming a collection.”
Next, Layne didn’t hold back: “There are so many! Everything becoming a ‘collection’ so people storm the parks when something is released because they HAVE to be first in line, then there are none for people that are just a fan. THEN the resale for outrageous prices because this has now become people’s career, buying and selling Disney items, instead of getting a real job.”
We get it—Disney merchandise is tempting. But there’s a big difference between loving a collectible and turning it into a full-blown reseller operation. And limited-edition releases can be exciting, but when it turns into a mad dash with items popping up on eBay minutes later for triple the price, it takes the magic out of it for a lot of fans.
“Live streaming during rides.”
Next, Jenn shared, “Live streaming at the parks, especially during rides like Jungle Cruise where they’re talking to their audience and the ‘Captain’ is doing their storyline. Sorta obnoxious.”
Look, we love a good vlog, but when it starts interfering with the in-person experience? That’s where the issue lies. There’s something frustrating about trying to enjoy a ride while someone next to you is talking to their phone the entire time. Maybe just film it and post it later?
“Cutting the lines.”
Next, Alison had strong feelings about this one: “Cutting the lines. I’ve seen so many people holding a spot for a group of people. This doesn’t mean bathroom breaks for kids. That’s totally fine!!”
We all know how brutal Disney lines can be, but there’s nothing worse than standing in a queue for an hour only to have a whole group squeeze in front of you at the last second. Holding a spot for a quick bathroom break is totally reasonable, but saving space for a dozen people? Well, that’s just not cool.
“Light-up swords and wands.”
Next, Julia shared, “Light up swords/wands. I have epilepsy and the flashing of the lights does bother me very much.”
Sometimes those Disney light-up souvenirs can be a little much — especially for people with sensory sensitivities or medical conditions. A little awareness can go a long way in making the parks a better experience for everyone.
“Throwing hair ties at Everest.”
Next, Julie called out a trend that’s been going on for years: “Throwing hair ties at Everest at the part when the track changes.”
If you’ve ever ridden Expedition Everest, you might have noticed the pile of hair ties collecting at the broken track section. For some reason, tossing hair ties has become a thing, but honestly… why? Not only does it make a mess, but it’s also kind of a weird tradition.
“The never-ending price hikes.”
Next, Roy shared, “The never-ending price hikes for everything. Can we have one year where prices don’t go up?”
Disney fans have been feeling the pinch for a while now. Ticket prices, food costs, hotel rates—it seems like everything just keeps getting more expensive. A little stability would be nice, wouldn’t it?
“Changing old movies and removing historical attractions.”
Last up, we’ve got Karrie who shared, “Taking old movies and changing them to fit current times does not teach kids about old ways. Plus, removing historical attractions to suit current generation.”
This one is definitely a hot topic. While some changes bring fresh energy to the parks, others feel like they erase pieces of Disney history. It’s a tricky balance between keeping things relevant and respecting the past.

I had one horrible line-cutting experience at a Halloween party that I paid extra for. It wasn’t just one group, but several in a row where one person got in line for a special character meet and greet, and then once they got to the front they brought in 5-10 extra people for the photos who had been waiting to the side. I’d understand if it was a disabled person, but that wasn’t the case. Of course, I never got a photo after waiting nearly an hour because by that time, the character had to leave.
Do you really care what adults want. Disney is for the kids. Lighting lane money hahaha what a joke just like that response. Spend your money on what ever makes you happy and satisfied.
Not sure some of these people understand what a “popular trend” is… For me, it’s wearing socks with Crocs. Why? Isn’t the point of Crocs that they’re comfortable? Not for walking? If the wearer is cold, then why wear open shoes? Don’t their feet slide around? Also, just looks super tourist-y!
People wear matching shirts so they know how to find one another. If you don’t like it fine. And who said that they spent a lot of money?
The group cutting in line is my biggest pet peeve at the parks. I wish this one would end immediately. I don’t get the hair tie trend either. I see this on certain Universal rides too. I can give more leeway on price hikes, as long as it isn’t a big jump. But i do wish passholders were “grandfathered in” at the price they started their passes.
Totally agree with removing historical attractions!
For years, Disney has crowed about how many tens of thousands of acres they have at their disposal for expansion. Yet they prefer to tear down existing rides (that still draw people into their parks) and replace them with flavor-of-the-month attractions that fit the areas of the parks poorly at best (the new, ill-conceived Cars Land – I’m looking squarely at you!). A quick refresh or repair of existing rides is not an issue, and is welcomed, but tearing down something that is still working and drawing crowds for a lengthy, unnecessary replacement is not cool. It’s just that many fewer rides to partake of for its customers.
Instead, it is long past time for Disney to look at building a fifth gate/park. That way, they can work on new rides and attractions, while still giving their customers their money’s worth by having all their existing rides and attractions open and operating for their paying customers.
Most of these I can agree with, as they can affect others. Totally disagree with Steph. What do you care if a family wants to wear identical shirts? It doesn’t affect you, and it makes them happy.
This might be dating myself. I used to love PLEASURE ISLAND! Us girls enjoyed buying the little bottles of liquor at the pastry and coffee shop that was directly across the way before we went PLEASURE ISLAND. My LV bag was full of tequila and vodka to mix with the red cups of juice, or, soda. We saved so much money that way. 15 days at a time. Married now and met him in WDW a few years ago. Thank you for my greatest souvenir!
No new parks. There are three parks at WDW with very few rides. Expand those parks.
Also, a lot of the old rides are just bad. Nostalgia is their only reason for existence. For instance, most of Tomorrowland could be taken down and replaced by thanks that are good.
If I go into a shop like Pooh’s Corner at Disneyland, I want Winnie the Pooh merchandise. Not Stitch, not Star Wars, not Princesses. I want Winnie the Pooh. And like Guardians ride, I don’t want all the other avengers, that’s across the way. I want Guardians. It’s annoying running into each shop with exactly same stuff. ?
I was recently in WDW. I rode Tiana and Splash Mountain was so much more interesting and fun!
The line cutting is totally out of hand, particularly since Disney actually has a rule against it that we all agreed to when we bought or tickets. I really believe the fix for this is so simple: there is a cast member stationed at the entrance to every standby line who could simply let everyone entering the line that they need to wait until the whole party is together before getting in line. Will this completely solve the problem? No, because people lie all the time, but it’s possible fewer people will cut the line if Disney actually starts paying attention. I also am completely frustrated with bubble wands. Not with the kids that are using them, but who let their kids use the wands in line or in a crowd where people who don’t want to be assaulted by bubbles have no escape.
