Okay, so we have our favorite Disney World restaurants, and we often talk about them. We’ll forever sing the praises of Homecomin‘ and Wine Bar George, and we’ll tell you how underrated we think Skipper Canteen and eet by Maneet Chauhan are if you ask.
However, we also let you know when a restaurant just isn’t…well, all that. Now, we’ve had some disappointing meals in Disney World before, but what we just had recently left us feeling outright upset. So we’re going to warn you about this restaurant so you don’t make the mistake we made by eating there.
This most recent dining “experience” took us to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. We stopped by the Meadow Snack Bar, which is a quick-service spot at the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool.
The menu here is pretty simple with hotdogs, salads, sandwiches, and snacks, but we picked up a meal that sounded promising, the Chicken Sandwich with Blueberry Barbecue Sauce and Kale Slaw for $11.79. It’s served with chips. First up, the blueberry was non-existent for us — we couldn’t taste it AT ALL. But that’s not all we didn’t taste. This chicken was BLAND and lacked any kind of seasoning. Also, the sandwich was served COLD?
The kale was fresh and crunchy, but again, there was just no flavor to this sandwich at all. And that made us sad because there was a huge potential with that blueberry barbecue sauce — it should’ve had a whole sweet and savory thing going on. Anyway, to quote our reporter, “It was very disappointing, and I was upset.”
Okay, so that’s strike one against this snack spot. However, we had better luck with the Banana Pudding for $5.79. It’s tasty, and although we were concerned it was pre-packaged, it tasted homemade. There were layers of soggy vanilla wafers (soggy in that good way you like in a banana pudding, though) and whipped cream.
It tasted fresh and was really good. However, we wouldn’t make the trek out to Fort Wilderness just to get it. But if you find yourself here, that’s a solid bet (just skip the sandwich).

Have you been to Meadow Snack Bar? What did you think of it? Let us know in the comments!
I have had so many different foods and snacks at Walt Disney World. I feel badly that someone actually had a bad food experience. I just can’t believe that. If you have a preconceived notion of what something should taste like, you might let yourself down. I have eaten so many different dishes, snacks and treats. Not a single bad one ever! I am speaking years of experience. Maybe someone had a cold and their tastebuds were off.
I forgot to mention the drinks and specialty drinks and libations! Top notch!
WDW food is the worst.
Had the same experience at Mexico last time. We had ate there several times in the past but not since covid hit. It started with them serving us cold salsa and chips out of a bag and went downhill from there. $7.99 for chips we get for free at any mom and pop Mexican restaurant around us here. Never again.
We ate at Meadow once, in between activities at Fort Wilderness. It wasn’t so bad (we knew it was a poolside snack bar), and in my memory, even though it was separate trips, it compares favorably to the quick service options readily available at Trail’s End now. The dining options at Fort Wilderness, with the exception of Hoop De Doo (which isn’t a ‘regular’ dining option), really need fixing. But given the way that Disney’s decisions have gone in recent years, they’re probably looking at ruining HDD rather than fixing the other broken option(s). One can hope that options at Lakeshore Lodge will improve things, but 1) it will be a trek to get over there, and 2) there’s no guarantee.
I would’ve expected a sandwich with that description to be served cold.
