Magic Kingdom is going through some serious changes right now!
There are TWO new lounges currently being built in the park — one is a DVC Lounge in Frontierland and the other is the highly-anticipated Pirates Tavern in Adventureland. Disney hasn’t shared a ton about the Frontierland lounge, McKim’s Mile House, but we’ve been keeping an eye on the construction. And, all that waiting has paid off because McKim’s Mile House opens at Magic Kingdom today!
The name of the lounge, McKim’s Mile House, refers to Disney Imagineer and Legend Sam McKim, who designed the Disneyland souvenir maps issued between 1958 and 1964. The second half of the lounge’s name, “Mile House,” was a term that was used back during the Gold Rush to help mark a building that was a mile from some important destination — which is fitting for this new lounge’s location!
This place is INCREDIBLE! Inside, you’ll find plenty of seating, plus a Coke Freestyle machine and other beverages, WiFi, and plenty of places to rest and recharge — literally. There are outlets built into some of the tables here. The story is that you are stopping in at the McKim’s roadhouse. They still live here (you can see their family quarters on the inaccessible second floor).
Guest names on the doors include:
- B. T. Bullion (Barnabus T. Bullion) – a character from BTMR
- M. Davis (Marc Davis) – Imagineer
- Hoot – Hoot the Owl who was originally supposed to be an animatronic on the Western River Expedition attraction
Access to this lounge is available to Disney Vacation Club members with Membership Magic access. You can also visit as a guest of a DVC member. DVC members get up to 4 guests OR if they’re staying in a resort room, everyone on the reservation can enjoy McKim’s Mile House.
We think this lounge is 100% worth going to if you’re a DVC Member. It’s cozy as all get-out and feels like the perfect escape from the crowds of Magic Kingdom. Plus, with access to coffee and Coca-Cola freestyle machines, it just makes for a great way to take a break. It’s a really great perk if you have DVC or a friend who’s in DVC!
The design perfectly suits Frontierland both on the outside and on the inside. It looks like a little log cabin on the outside and we love all the nods to Frontierland history as well that are inside. While we do wish that it was open to more than just DVC Members and their guests, we know that’s part of what keeps DVC exclusive — the perks!
McKim, the Imagineer, did many of the drawings for Frontierland and you can spot a few of them on the walls here. The horse drawings (South and West by the door) and the bottommost frame on the staircase gallery wall were both pieces by McKim!
McKim’s Mile House is open from 11 AM to 6 PM at Magic Kingdom, exclusively for Disney Vacation Club Members and their guests. Make sure you check it out on your next visit if you’re able to!
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more updates from Magic Kingdom and Disney World. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!

Where precisely is this lounge? Did it take over the arcade?
I will not be visiting this lounge as I am not, nor will I ever be, a DVC member.
I disagree, not everyone should have access to this lounge. DVC taken many perks away over the 30 years we’ve been members. I for one enjoy the respite away from crowds and feel that membership has its privileges. You want in? Buy points like I did!
Hum… only open from 11am-6pm for a select group of people?
And offering Coke and plug ins and seat?
What a waste of space
Yes, the DVC Lounge in Frontierland is were the Shootin’ Arcade once was.
I’m looking forward to going. The theming looks great. When the Epcot lounge first opened I was surprised that there wasn’t really anything to do there but we’ve used it loads over the years and really appreciate it. It’s nice to have a cool, quiet, sit down and top up on your fluid intake. Does the new lounge have bathrooms?
We’re supposed to be excited about a place only a small percentage of us will be able to utilize?
So what is it marking a mile away from?
