We’re just one short week away from the permanent closure of “It’s Tough to Be a Bug!” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and to say we’re sad is an understatement.
The show – which takes place inside the Tree of Life Theater – is closing to make way for a brand new attraction, “Zootopia: Better Zoogether! We figured we would start to see changes hit this show shortly after it officially closed — but we weren’t expecting to see them before it closed!
“It’s Tough to be a Bug!” will officially close at Animal Kingdom on March 17th, 2025 to make way for “Zootopia: Better Zoogether,” but it looks like Disney is wasting no time when it comes to this transformation. When we stopped by this attraction to experience it yet another time before it closes for good, we noticed something different about the 3D glasses!
Instead of the iconic, creepy, and crawly, bug-themed 3D glasses you typically wear when seeing this show, we were given these generic, plain ‘ol purple ones!
We’re not sure what happened to the bug glasses, but we didn’t realize how much we’d miss them until they were gone. If you’re heading to Animal Kingdom before March 17th, make sure you stop by this attraction one last time before it closes for good!
Disney recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at “Zootopia: Better Zoogether” and we must say, we’re already getting excited! Check out Ginnifer Goodwin reprising her role as Officer Judy Hopps for the new show.
Major changes are coming to Animal Kingdom and it’s not just at the Tree of Life! DinoLand U.S.A. is being transformed into a Tropical Americas-themed land named Pueblo Esperanza and will include three brand new attractions! These attractions include an Encanto-themed attraction, a carousel, and an Indiana Jones-themed attraction.
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more updates from Animal Kingdom. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!

This was such a classic. Really hope Disney doesn’t screw it up with a mediocre replacement. That seems to be their MO!
I’m just tired of losing things to get new ones. I’m sure the new Zootopia attraction will be great, but they could have done many things with Zootopia. I hope the Cast Members got to take the original ITTBAB glasses as souvenirs. I’ll miss being petrified by Hopper. And the spiders. And the bug spray. And the disgusting flying cupcake. And the creepy crawlies in the seats at the end. RIP ITTBAB.
I actually don’t really like the changes. I would prefer them to just add new stuff to the parks and not change existing things. Because really if I had an experience there I would love to have my kids come over too and have the same experience. But when it’s gone, they can never experience the same stuff again. I think this defeats the purpose of Disney that is to create this alternative fantasy world for all of us. So far for my 2 cents, but still I love Disney anyway.
????AWOOOOOOO!! ????
I’m so heartbroken over this change.
Zootopia does NOT fit into Animal Kingdom. The movie’s not about real animals, the characters being animals is a storytelling device, but they’re just humans.
A Bug’s Life was about real animals – their strengths, vulnerabilities, and how small animals can be mighty when working together.
It’s Tough to be a Bug was scary, yes, but it had that amazing Muppet-esc show-gone-wrong feel and it has SUCH a fun ending. I adore Flick’s little ending speech.
Man, I’m going to miss you Flick, thanks for making my childhood awesome.
Good little bug.
