We’re in the Disney World parks pretty often (and by that, we mean every single day!) which means we definitely have our favorite spots that are must-visits nearly every time we go.
For many of us on the DFB team, at EPCOT, that place is La Cava del Tequila! This tequila cave hidden inside the Mexico Pavilion pyramid is the absolute best place to be to get — what else?! Tequila! We recently paid a visit to La Cava del Tequila (you know, for old time’s sake) and we’re bringing you along to check it out!
Whether you’re a tequila aficionado or are just dipping your toes into the water, La Cava del Tequila is a great place to do so! In addition to the iconic cocktails and margaritas on the menu — like the Avocado Margarita — you can find hundreds of different types of tequila, mezcal, reposado, and añejo here. And, even if you don’t know what you want, they have a few different solutions for that, too!
First of all, the bartenders and staff here are SO knowledgeable and will be able to answer any questions you might have about different drinks and tequila types. You can tell a bartender you want a reposado that’s not too expensive, or just ask them for their recommendations and tell them your price point. You can even tell them that you don’t know anything about tequila but want to learn more, and they’ll take you on a journey!
These guys are super on their game, so it’s a great way to learn more about the spirit and try new things if you’re up for it! And, of course, there’s always a tequila flight that lets you try multiple different types of tequilas so you can get a feel for what you like before getting a drink.
If you’re not in the mood for a full drink, you can always order a shot here too! This is another great way to try out different tequilas. The shots here are served with salt, lime, and tomato juice for a chaser. We highly recommend trying new tequilas when you’re here!
Depending on when you visit La Cava, there may or may not be a pretty significant line — this place gets POPULAR. But, sometimes they’ll have a Cast Member walking around with this handy dandy flow chart that can help you decide what you should order to drink!
On our most recent visit, we used the flowchart that took us from Mezcal to On the Rocks to Spicy, and that gave us the Crystal Inferno! This drink is made with Dos Hombres Espadín Mezcal, Alma Finca orange liqueur, clarified lemon juice, and spiced nectar with a pepper on the side.
This was a really delicious cocktail. It’s one we’ve had before, but we forget how good it is! Despite being unassuming, it had a lot of sweetness to it that landed right on your palette when you first sipped it. It was pretty spicy on the back end, but the spiciness was all in your throat and not on your tongue or lips, so it didn’t leave your mouth burning. There was still a really pleasant spiciness as it went down.
And then because of the mezcal, you also had a smokiness on the nose. This drink was like a complex, very full experience without being unfamiliar flavor-wise.
Okay, that’s enough of this love letter to La Cava del Tequila at EPCOT. Happy drinking!
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for the latest updates from EPCOT and the rest of Disney World. Don’t forget to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for more Disney news!
