There are different ways that you can make your time waiting for Disney World rides and attractions a bit shorter.
The most obvious one is purchasing Lighting Lane Multi, Single, or Premier Pass. You can also wait in the single rider line if a ride offers it. Well, a new way to “skip” the line at Disney World just debuted, and then was quietly removed just weeks later.
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is an attraction in Galaxy’s Edge at both Disneyland and Disney World. The attraction seats six people, three on each side of the ship. Two people share one of three roles including Pilot, Gunner, and Engineer.
In general, most parties at Disney World consist of either two or four, this is not always the case, but typically parties are split like this, and Disney knows this. In order to fill the extra seats on Smugglers Run, Disney tested out a different version of a single rider line.
The double rider line was introduced in early January 2025 and allowed parties of two to enter this separate line together. This line is different from both the stand-by and Lightning Lane lines, and although it can sometimes be shorter, it does not mean that it is the fastest option. Pairs were boarded on a needed basis. Meaning you would only board when a “ship” needed an additional pair. Oftentimes, those in this separate line would get the role of Engineer.
This is similar to Disneyland’s Buddy Pass System for Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! in Disney California Adventure. Just like Smugglers Run, this attraction seats six. In order to keep taxis full, Disney offers Buddy Pass from time to time that allows parties of two to enter through the exit. They typically are seated in the last row and are called to board to fill taxis that only are seating four people.
While this system made a ton of sense for Disney World’s Smugglers Run, it, unfortunately, was no longer being offered at the end of January and it has yet to return. We hope that Disney is working out the kinks to bring this back permanently!
We will continue to keep an eye out for any updates regarding this, as well as all the latest Disney news, so stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog!
CHANGES Announced for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Attraction in Disney’s Hollywood Studios
We weren’t there for the pairs line, but we have lucked out many times and gotten on a ride a little faster when a CM calls out for two people (and our party was two people or we could split up). We likely wouldn’t use the pairs line on this ride though because we prefer the first row (pilots?), and we’re willing to wait to get on the ride in order to get that. When we’ve been a small group (2-4), we have sometimes used the single rider line for some attractions. Test Track, at least the way it used to be, was ideal for this. Although there are some rides that I wouldn’t do single rider for, and I wouldn’t want a random person put in with us either. There are some rides that it would be too weird.
