Magic Kingdom is wonderful…but that doesn’t mean it’s perfect.
There’s a lot to love about “The Most Magical Place on Earth”. The incredible attractions, shows, and overall nostalgia make Magic Kingdom a must-visit destination for families all over the world. With that said, there are some things we would change and we’re never one to shy away from sharing our opinions!
While thinking about what we’d change at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, five suggestions really stood out that made us go, “Absolutely! We’d all be down with that!” So without further ado, let’s jump right in and highlight some changes we have on our wishlist!
Update the Space Mountain Track
We’re not gonna sugarcoat it…Disneyland’s Space Mountain blows Magic Kingdom’s out of the water. There is a reasonable solution to rectify this, however.
Disneyland’s Space Mountain is aided by an updated track and fantastic soundtrack. While Magic Kingdom’s version has TWO tracks versus Disneyland’s, the Disney World version is truly hampered by an older, bumpier experience. Not to mention, getting in and out of the ride vehicles in Disney World’s version can be awkward and uncomfortable.
The Space Mountain in Disneyland underwent a lengthy refurbishment in the early 2000s that saw its entire track get replaced. The result has been a smoother and more fun experience. Magic Kingdom’s Space Mountain is due.
Update the Finale of the Carousel of Progress
Tomorrowland’s Carousel of Progress is a seriously underrated ride and deserves way more love than it gets. However, we still take issue with one feature.
The ride takes guests throughout the history of American innovation and the average household from each era. The experience culminates with a final scene depicting the future. However, this scene shares a similar problem with the rest of Tomorrowland… the future came and went.
Unfortunately, the finale depicts a future that seems outdated. VR is already a thing, as is a technologically-rooted house. It’s time to look even further ahead and have a finale that gives us a glimpse into the even more distant future.
Fix the Rides
This is nitpicking and not as rooted in science as the other two points, but Magic Kingdom needs to be more on it with its ride maintenance.
Ride closures often happen at Magic Kingdom and it can make for a frustrating experience. We understand the complexities of managing a resort the size of San Francisco and how money needs to be dispersed to provide competent upkeep. We just wish Magic Kingdom’s rides got some more TLC.
Magic Kingdom is already one of the BEST theme parks in the world…imagine how immaculate it would be if everything worked as it was supposed to ALL THE TIME!
Add More Tours
Gone are the days of Train Tours at Magic Kingdom. Now you’ll only find the Keys to the Kingdom tour.
We’d love for them to bring back some old tours just to add variety! From the Backlot Tour to the Ultimate Day of Thrills VIP tour, Disney World could do well to pull some old tours from its history and reinstall them.
Adopt Things from Other Parks
Magic Kingdom was inspired by Disneyland Park, so it should have no shame in borrowing from other Disney Parks.
Wouldn’t it be cool to see the Groot overlay in “it’s a small world”? Or maybe the Haunted Mansion gets the super popular Holiday overlay featured at Disneyland.
Changes don’t have to be limited to rides — why not bring over some popular snacks like the chimichangas?! The possibilities are endless and it would be great to see Magic Kingdom embrace some great quirks featured at other Disney Parks around the world.

I love Carousel of Progress, but that last scene has drives me crazy. I think it needed updating 20 years ago!
FIX THE RIDES! YES! The high cost of a ticket and so many rides shut down.
I think the last scene on the Carousel of Progress should be tech from the turn of the 21st century
( new fangled flip phones instead of the old “brick” phones, new laptops instead of clunky huge PCs, rudimentary gaming consoles, etc). It would be history for today’s kids. Then the curtain comes down with a screen to show a movie with the latest tech that can be easily updated when it becomes obsolete.
Space Mountain really does need a smoother track ! How about a longer multi launch ride as there is currently alot of unused space in that building !
Carousel of Progress needs Now Is The Time song returned ! This song was much more energetic as well as the voice actors !
Definitely agree it would be great to see the return of more tours (across Disney World, MK included).
I’m not persuaded you’ve made your case on space mountain. It seems natural to compare all the rides that share the same name, but the west-coast equivalent of MK’s Space Mountain is really the Matterhorn bobsleds (for all it’s flaws, I suspect you would cause a riot if you called for that to be replaced with a new ride system). The best Space Mountain is the Paris version; Disney World already has a very similar ride in the form of Rock’n’Rollercoaster over at HS. I say either let the classic, original version of Space Mountain stand, or do something radical and new – no call for replicating the middle-child of the series.
A Groot overlay on It’s a small world would not be cool – the word you were looking for is ‘tedious’. Overlays in general are something I’ve mixed feelings on – they can be cool, but create a lot of FOMO for the infrequent visitor.
