If you know anything about Disney, it’s that they’re no stranger to making waves with their big decisions, and the latest announcement about Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser has definitely left a lot of us Disney Adults divided.

Galactic Starcruiser
If you’ve been following along, you already know that the ultra-immersive, ultra-expensive Star Wars hotel experience didn’t exactly go as planned. Less than two years after opening, Disney made the call to shut it down, leaving many of us wondering what would become of the elaborately themed space. Now, we have our answer – it’s being turned into Disney office space. The place where guests once embarked on a two-night Star Wars adventure will soon house Disney employees. With all that in mind, we wanted to find out from you what your takes were on the situation. Well, we asked and you delivered!
We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “How do YOU feel about Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser being turned into Disney office spaces?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!
Now, let’s dive into some of your top responses!
“I Think It’s a Great Idea”
A good number of you felt that this was actually a smart move. Our reader Leann shared, “I think it’s a great idea. I could just imagine working in such a magical creative environment.” It’s true – if you’re a Disney employee, working in a fully themed Star Wars environment does sound pretty incredible. Can you imagine heading to a meeting in the bridge of the starship? For those who love Star Wars and Disney, it’s a dream office space.

The practicality of the decision also resonated with some of you. For example, Sue said, “They needed to do something with it so this is fine – probably better than tearing it down.” That’s a fair point. Tearing down a building that cost hundreds of millions of dollars to construct would be a major waste of resources. And given that the Galactic Starcruiser was custom-built for an incredibly niche experience, turning it into another hotel might not have been the easiest (or cheapest) transition.

INSIDE the Galactic Starcruiser
Similarly, The Enchanted Mic Podcast shared, “With all the projects going on it makes sense to have them close. They can see first hand the progress and do testing if needed. I think it’s a great idea for a space that’s just sitting there. Hopefully it will be a positive for the progress of the projects.” So, for some of you, the idea of repurposing the space instead of abandoning it was actually a win – even if it wasn’t the most exciting outcome.
“This Should Have Stayed as a Star Wars Hotel – Just More Affordable”
While some of you were happy to see the space being used at all, others were frustrated that it wasn’t being turned into something that guests could still enjoy. To that point, Julie shared, “Even though we have never stayed at hotel when we stay on property, I still think this should have stayed as a Star Wars themed hotel but not as expensive. However, I give Disney credit for not demolishing the building and it’s being repurposed.”

Dining on the Galactic Starcruiser
Many of you felt that Disney had a real opportunity here to transform the Starcruiser into a more traditional Star Wars hotel – one without the required two-day, fully immersive storyline that had guests essentially role-playing their way through their stay. A more standard Star Wars resort could have made the experience more accessible to the average Disney World traveler.
“A Waste of Potential”
For some of you, the disappointment wasn’t just about the loss of the hotel – it was about the missed opportunity to expand the Star Wars universe inside the parks. Martha summed it up by saying, “Opportunity lost for extension of Galaxy‘s Edge.” This is a sentiment that we saw pop up again and again. Why not incorporate the space into Batuu? Maybe into something like an in-park attraction, a walk-through experience, or even a Star Wars dinner show that would allow more guests to enjoy it.

Kelly echoed this idea, saying, “What a waste! It would be better if it could be used for maybe a themed restaurant/dinner theater or something.” And honestly, we see the vision. Imagine a high-end dining experience where guests could enjoy Star Wars-inspired dishes while surrounded by droids, alien performers, and holographic storytelling. It could have been the ultimate immersive dinner destination.
“Could They At Least Offer Tours?”
While some of you have accepted the office space transformation, others have one simple request: “Let us see it.” To that, Charles had a suggestion: “It would be cool if they offered paid tours like they do at Walt Disney Studios.”
This could be a solid compromise for fans who never got the chance to experience the Starcruiser but still want to check out the incredible theming and design of the building. Disney already offers special behind-the-scenes tours in other areas of the parks, so why not allow fans to take a peek inside the repurposed Starcruiser?
“At Least It’s Not Going to Waste”
Lastly, some of you weren’t thrilled with the decision, but you did appreciate that the space was at least being used for something productive. For example, Shawn said, “At least it’s being used for something productive.” Similarly, Jessica joked, “Imagineers lucked out ?✨” and Alison commented, “Another reason I wish I worked at Disney ?.” For Disney employees, getting to work in an immersive Star Wars environment is probably one of the coolest office perks imaginable. While it may not be what fans were hoping for, there’s no denying that it beats an empty building collecting dust.
