EPCOT has changed a lot in the past few years, so if you haven’t been since the construction walls came down, or before the construction walls first went up, you may be a little confused getting around.
We totally get that, and that’s why we’re here to help! However, we can’t lie to you all — we’ve heard some FUNNY things around EPCOT that have had us laughing. And we don’t judge! We’ve all been here, so we understand, but once you know your way around, you often find these questions a little funny as well.
Where’s Cosmic Rewind?
The newest attraction in the park is surprisingly hard to find, as it’s in an area that wasn’t previously occupied by anything. The ride was built where Ellen’s Energy Adventure used to be, so many guests who haven’t been to the park in years have trouble finding it.
It’s tucked away closer to Mission: SPACE, and you’ve got to walk past Club Cool (or past Creations Shop, depending on which way you come from) to get there, and we get it, it’s hard to find! However, it does make us laugh a little bit when we see someone walking the complete opposite way as they ask the question aloud, but are moving too fast for anyone around to help.
What’s in The Big Golf Ball?
We get it, Spaceship Earth really DOES look like a massive golf ball, we can’t argue with that! But since we’ve all been calling it it’s actual name for years, it does make us giggle when we hear someone refer to it as the golf ball.
Interestingly enough, we’ve also heard someone say that they miss the roller coaster that used to be in Spaceship Earth…which, never existed. The person with this individual assured them that there’s never been a roller coaster inside, but they were adamant, saying that they’ve even ridden it and that it went upside down. Quietly to ourselves, we had a feeling they were talking about Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster but figured it wasn’t our conversation.
“I Miss That One Restaurant With The Talking Trash Can.”
Ah, Electric Umbrella, how your legacy lives on! If you have no idea what we’re talking about, then you maybe never got to experience the iconic talking trash can, which is unfortunate!
This restaurant was similar to Cosmic Ray’s in Magic Kingdom for the sole reason that it had a very large seating area and offered pretty traditional theme park eats, but the decor was early EPCOT at its finest. It closed on February 15th, 2020, and now in its place stands Connections Eatery and Cafe. And yes, there really was a talking trash can that was beloved by many.
“We Should Start in Canada”
Listen, we don’t often say that anything is flat out wrong, but many members of our team FIRMLY believe that you should always start in Mexico when drinking around the world. After all, “beer before liquor, never been sicker,” and beer’s about the only alcoholic beverage you’ll find in Canada!

Club cool was ice station cool, and it did used to at least look like an ice cave. Though not cold like ice.
There was a snow machine at the entrance of Club Cool.
I second Wieland’s comment. Club Cool was originally Ice Station Cool and you had to walk through what felt like an ice cave to get into the main area. And it was chilly walking through that section.
I think they might be thinking of the oooooooold club cool when it had the excavator lookin machine outside of an ice cave and the frozen guy in the cooler. Hadn’t been like that since I was a kid growing up in Florida and had annual passes.
You entered through the ice cave that did have snow and ice!
Club cool (previously ice station cool) used to have an entrance that was more or less a refrigerated ice tunnel. This included real snow that was piled up at the base of the walls. It mainly served to funnel guests into the coca cola tasting room, but it was also a good way to get a break from the Florida heat. I am not sure when they removed it, but it was definitely there in the early 2000s.
Coke had a ice cave exhibit at EPCOT. It had a red snow cat vehicle out front and you had to enter through a snow cave (obviously Disney made). Inside you could get free coke product samples. I believe it was at the recently closed down Innovation building.
Fact Check.
Guardians of the Galaxy WAS indeed built within the space that was the old Universe of Energy Pavillion/ Ellen’s Energy Adventure which closed in 2017.
Club Cool’s first iteration DID have a polar/ ice cave theming! Complete with a frozen caveman, Ice Station Cool was located in old Innovations East. It closed for a few months in 2005 turning it into Club Cool. Club Cool then existed in that spot until the 2019 refurbishment and reopened in 2021 next to Creations Shop.
Been waiting for a post like this. I overheard in Magic Kingdom a family walking towards the teacups and ask. “Is this the carousel?” Partner responded “no it’s not the carousel it’s a restaurant”.
Just waiting for a coster in club cool, it seems that this is the way disney is going,
My husband and I ask each other dumb questions all the time, then give dumb answers, just for fun to make eavesdroppers roll their eyes. Then at least they can go home and tell their families they heard it happen.
The talking trash can was at the Odyssey with the Muppets last year. Brought back lots of memories.
The talking trash can is named “Push”. We have seen it sometimes in the table area of the Odyssey as recently as a few months ago and it was still working. It isn’t always there.
You OBVIOUSLY start in Canada. We don’t drink so we have no problem with the alcohol situation. That must be why people start in Mexico. There’s no other reason. 🙂
