There is always so much happening when it comes to the Walt Disney Company!
From iconic lands beginning to fade away to company executive change-ups and even multimonth closures, the amount of Disney news we cover each week is surprising! It can be a lot to keep up with so we’re wrapping it all up by breaking down the three biggest new stories from this week.
To start us off, another iconic Disney Parks area is on the chopping block and we finally know the timeline! In Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios, the Muppets have had a home on Grand Avenue since 1991 when MuppetVision 3D opened.

Muppets Courtyard
In August 2024 at D23, it was announced that the Muppet Courtyard would be rethemed to the brand new Monsters Inc. Land! This week it was finally confirmed that this area will be closing in two different phases. First up, we’re saying goodbye to Mama Melrose on May 10th, so if you’re looking to enjoy some Italian cuisine you need to go before then!

Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano
The second phase of closures means we will be saying goodbye to Muppet Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo on June 7th. While we are excited to say hi to Mike and Sully, we’re really mourning this loss!

More major rethemes were announced this month but these are over in Disneyland! This week Disney announced they are adding new theming decor to Disney’s Grand California Hotel and new signature suites are coming to Pixar Place Hotel!

Pixar Place Hotel
Disney’s Grand Californian will be giving all of their rooms a little work! The new designs include bold carpets, upholstery, and bedding, plus new artwork that is being commissioned from local plein air painters.

As far as the Pixar Hotel signature suites go, there will be two premium suites themed to Coco and The Incredibles. The Coco suite will inspired by the Rivera family hacienda and will include family photos and mementos.

The Incredibles suite will feature “super-inspired touches and special effects including a spy phone, hidden messages, a secret door.” The bedroom in this suite will be for the Parr Parents and the other mid-century-inspired areas will be Edna Mode designed.

We can’t wait to see these changes take shape!

The last major news of the week is thanks to CEO Bob Iger! This week the Disney CEO’s 2024 salary was revealed, detailing a total of $41.1 million which was a 30% jump from the previous year.

Bob Iger
The company’s annual proxy report came out earlier this week detailing more salaries than just Iger’s. According to Deadline, Iger’s compensation package is weighted toward performance-based incentives, with $1 million of the total being accounted for as his base salary. Around $18.3 million of Iger’s pay came from stock awards, $12 million was option awards, $7.2 million in non-equity incentive plan compensation, and $2.1 million came from “other.”

The proxy report comes as the company is currently on the search for the next CEO as Iger’s contract is slated to end on December 31st, 2026. Iger previously stepped away from the role in 202o before returning in 2022 after some tumultuous years for the company.
