A new Universal Studios theme park is under construction in Frisco, Texas — but when will the gates officially open??
There’s a ton of new stuff in the works from Universal. Epic Universe is set to open in Orlando on May 22nd, 2025, a year-round horror attraction is expected to open later this year, AND a brand-new Universal theme park is being built in Frisco, Texas!
In 2023, Universal announced plans for an all-new theme park experience in Frisco, Texas. According to Universal, the new park concept will be “set in a lush green landscape” and feature “immersive themed lands.” It will celebrate “Universal’s iconic brand of entertainment, humor, and innovation and brings to life its beloved characters and stories in ways that will wow even the youngest theme park goers.”
The experience is focused on younger kids and will offer rides, shows, a hotel, and character meet-and-greets featuring Minions and Shrek. It’s expected to attract “7,500 visitors on an average day and up to 20,000 visitors on the highest day,” making it smaller than Univesal’s Florida and California theme parks. For comparison, a previous annual report stated that Universal Studios Hollywood had an average of 20,000 yearly visitors.
The family-friendly park will be named Universal Kids Resort, an appropriate name considering it will be the company’s first-ever park designed specifically for families with young children.
Universal hasn’t yet made an official announcement about the opening date for Universal Kids Resort, but a filing last year with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation listed a completion date of May 2026 for the project.
That filing is still the only specific clue we’ve seen about a potential timeline since Universal hasn’t given details about an opening date yet. Vertical construction began on the resort’s buildings last year so it looks like things are still moving along, although we’ll have to wait and see if the park will in fact be ready to open in 2026!
We’ll be on the lookout for more news about Universal Kids Resort as construction progresses, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest!

I grew up in that area. Of course then it was all just farmland. I cannot see this as being a great location due to weather. The issue is that it is very hot and dry in the summertime. Being outside can be deadly. One year the temp was over 100 for almost 60 days straight. In the winter, it can be brutal with temps well below freezing with snow and Ice Storms. Not to mention thunderstorms, tornados, and torrential rains in the spring and fall. We will have to see I guess. Would not be my first pick.
