Disney World is going to be under a lot of construction over the next few years. Magic Kingdom will be getting rid of Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America to make way for a new Cars expansion in Frontierland. Magic Kingdom will also be adding a new Villains land PLUS Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently closed for a big refurbishment.
Animal Kingdom’s DinoLand, U.S.A. has started phased closings so Disney can build a new land, Pueblo Esperanza. Muppets Courtyard will close soon to make way for a Monsters, Inc. land. Well, the construction is coming to Disney World hotels soon, too, and a new permit suggests that Disney’s Pop Century Resort will go through a long refurbishment that could result in some hotel room updates.
We’d already learned that Disney’s Pop Century Resort had plans to refurbish its rooms, but three new permits that were recently filed suggest that the work at the hotel is going to go on longer than we initially thought. At the time, it was confirmed that the room updates would happen from late March 2025 through mid-February 2026. However, the permits we discovered were filed for construction through August 2026. Here’s a look at one of the permits for one of the buildings at Pop Century that has an expiration date of August 28th, 2026.
Two other permits for general construction, for buildings 2 and 3, at Disney’s Pop Century Resort also have the same expiration date. This would be the 1950s area of the resort.
So, what does this mean? Will the work at Pop Century go on longer than expected? Well, we don’t know. This could simply be a case of Disney giving itself a little extra time in case the project does go on longer than the company expected.
Disney has been hard at work on Everything Pop, the hotel’s shopping and dining spot since last year. We recently got a peek at some of the updates at the food court, and we really loved its bright, vibrant, retro feel.
Note that while construction will be going on, the hotel is still open — you just might hear some construction noise during the daytime hours.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more details, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

What do you think — what would you like to see in the updated Pop Century rooms? Let us know in the comments!
I bet they are putting family suites in each building, like they have at All Star Music. Love them, separate bedroom, great extra shower bathroom, bigger, useful kitchen, and all the regular parts of a regular room too. It gives you twice as much space and the price was no more than two rooms rented at the same time but with more benefits. Plus being close to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios by gondola, ah perfection.
Didn’t they just update these rooms not too long ago ? I really hope they don’t throw in a Monsters shower curtain and up the price. So over their creative ways to squeeze us for everything.
Didn’t they refurbish the rooms not to long ago? I remember staying there and the room seemed to have been redone. Maybe around 2021?
Hi AJ,
I’m in WDW next week and I was wondering if we could catch up as I would like to thank you personally for all the info I have been watching the last 9 months for this trip. Travelling from Australia for the trip of a lifetime. Anyway. If not thanks to you and your team for all the great videos and information and tips on what and not to do.
Thanks Jan
Since the hotel is themed by decades it would be nice if a picture of an icon from the decade for each section is added to the stark white hospital rooms.
If the picture of the Pop rooms is as above here …what a blah blah room…..white white white…no colors….a simple throw on bed or colored pillows……ho hum….boring……
