There are a lot of new things coming to Disney World in the coming years! Some of the changes include a brand-new Villains Land will be coming to Magic Kingdom and DinoLand, U.S.A. will be getting rethemed to a Tropical Americas-themed land called Pueblo Esperanza.
But those aren’t the only new areas coming to Disney World soon. A new Cars area is also in the works in Magic Kingdom, and we just got an update about the permit filed by Disney back in August 2024.
In August 2024, Disney filed a permit for 407 Basin Stormwater Modifications in relation to the new Cars area that will be coming to Magic Kingdom. The permit was for a project to build a treatment facility for stormwater drained from the area with “7.3 acres of surface water impacts to Rivers of America.” Then in September, the South Florida Water Management District requested additional information from Disney for the permit.
Disney was given 10 days to respond to the request for the additional information, and in December, Disney requested an extension of 60 days for the additional information. The extension request was granted, and Disney was given an extension until January 9th, 2025, which was later updated to January 18th, 2025.
Well, January 18th has now come and gone, so where do we stand with the Cars area permit? The good news is that Disney filed more information on January 18th, 2025, including plans and drawings for the permit. Now, the ball is back in the South Florida Water Management District’s court. They will review the new information and then provide Disney with a response about the permit application.
We will continue to monitor the permit’s status, and we will keep you updated with any news. Back at the 2024 D23 Expo, when Disney announced the new Cars area in Magic Kingdom, they announced that construction was expected to begin in early 2025.
This new area will bring two new Cars attractions to Magic Kingdom. One attraction will take riders racing through the mountains along wild terrain and along mountain trails. The other attraction will be more family friendly. The Cars area will be located where Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America are currently located.
We will make sure to keep you updated on all things Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB!

Are you excited for the Cars area in Magic Kingdom? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
No, we are Not excited. We love the whole Frontierland and Liberty Square area. We love the River, the Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island. They are Walt originals. We wish they would put Cars somewhere else.
Why haven’t they changed out the gasoline cars in Tomorrowland for something more modern or futuristic???
Wendy, I agree! It’s so sad they are making this change. That part of the park is so beautiful and removing the rivers of America is going to change the whole atmosphere.
Ditto Wendy
This is the dumbest thing Disney is doing now. All the land they can build on and they decide to destroy one of the most beautiful parts ot the park.
Nope.
I’m okay with it as long as they keep Disneyland’s Frontierland and Rivers of America.
