Things are about to get a little sad in Disney World. Not only are we starting to say goodbye to DinoLand U.S.A. in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, but we’re also going to have to say goodbye to Muppets Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
You see, Muppets Courtyard will be going away FOREVER to make way for a Monsters, Inc. land. Yep, we’ll be saying goodbye to the ICONIC Muppet*Vision 3D, Mama Melrose’s, PizzeRizzo, and the most awesome statue of Miss Piggy EVER. So when do we expect Disney to tear all this Muppet awesomeness down? Well, we don’t like to think about it (because it makes us cry), but we have a general idea.
So we don’t really have a specific date for when Disney has plans to close Muppets Courtyard to start demolishing it to get the area ready to become something new. Disney has not yet announced when this part of Hollywood Studios may close and when the construction walls will go up.
However, we do have a general timeline. Here’s the thing: Disney stated that construction on the new Monsters, Inc. land would begin in 2025. For that to happen, Muppets Courtyard would have to close and the land be demolished (okay, we say demolished, but Disney is likely using some of the existing structures and just changing them up).
So what does that tell us? Muppets Courtyard could close and the demolition work needed could start any day now, although it’s likely that it will start later in the year since we haven’t had any official word on when the area might close. But we do know this will happen THIS YEAR. Needless to say, you’ll want to visit Muppets Courtyard early this year if you get the chance because once it closes, it’s closed forever.
If we’re looking at how Disney announced the phased closure of DinoLand, U.S.A., well, we didn’t know about until a few months before it happened. It’s likely that’s going to be the case with Muppets Courtyard, too. We’re expecting an announcement any day now, so when it comes in, we’ll be sure to let you know, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

Watch how far out you can make dining reservations at Mama Melrose. That should give you a good idea. I have one for the end of the month.
Might they not do the same thing they’re doing in DinoLand- you know leave MuppetVision open like Dinosaur, while they tear down the center part and some of the facades to make way for the new Monsters Inc. coaster building. That way they’d leave an up and running attraction open while construction is going on.
Save the Muppet fountain and reinstall it on the property of All Star Movies
Hotel.
Why destroy a piece of such craftsmanship?
