Start the music…
In a MAJOR shakeup in the music and entertainment industries, Disney struck a deal with the Recording Academy of America to air the Grammy Awards for ten years, beginning in 2027. As part of the deal, Disney will broadcast the awards shows on ABC, as well as both its Hulu and Disney+ streaming services.
Disney’s acquisition of the broadcast rights for the Grammys will end an over 50-year relationship between the Recording Academy and CBS/Paramount, who’ve broadcast the music industry spectacle since 1973. According to Deadline, CBS (who last signed a 10-year-deal with the Recording Academy in 2016) had been interested in retaining the rights to the Grammys, but the two sides were unable to come to a new agreement during an exclusive contractual negotiating window, and Disney swooped in.

Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Dana Walden said, “As The Walt Disney Company combines forces with The Recording Academy to open this exciting new chapter in the history of The Grammys, we do so with pride and gratitude. Live events have never been more important to our culture and industry, and we just acquired one of the crown jewels, adding to our portfolio of world-class programming across all genres.”
Meanwhile, Harvey Mason Jr., Recording Academy CEO, added, “We are completely thrilled to be bringing The Grammys and other new music programming to the Disney ecosystem. We are grateful to our long-standing partners at CBS and now honored to be joining with Disney, an iconic company where creators have always been at the forefront. This partnership represents another important milestone in the Academy’s transformation and growth, and strengthens our ability to fulfill our mission of uplifting and serving music people around the world.”
During the first year of the deal, Disney/ABC will air the Grammys, The Oscars, and the Super Bowl. CBS will broadcast the show during the final two years of its deal, including the 67th Grammy Awards, which will air on February 2nd.
Disney has won the right to broadcast “music’s biggest night” on ABC and Disney+ and Hulu for a decade beginning in 2027. Stay tuned to DFB for further entertainment industry updates.
