EPCOT has had a busy week with the grand opening of CommuniCore Hall and Plaza, and the debut of a new show, ¡Celebración Encanto! While there have been mixed feelings about the new festival space, this opening does mark the completion of the years-long EPCOT transformation.
Amidst the grand opening of CommuniCore Hall and Plaza, EPCOT also opened up a refurbished seating area nearby, and we were surprised by some items we spotted there.
An area near the Imagination Pavilion has been under construction for a bit. We weren’t entirely sure what was going to end up there, but now we have the answer! For reference, we made a beautifully illustrated map to show you the area we are talking about. It is right near the newly reopened CommuniCore Hall and Plaza and the Imagination Pavilion.
This area features a fair amount of picnic tables with umbrellas. The ground is made of a super squishy turf which was fun to walk on, but our reporter noted that it made the area feel especially hot. Based on the map, it looks like there may eventually be large sunshades installed, but for right now there are just the umbrellas over the tables. But the tables and umbrellas were not the only thing we spotted in this area!
We also noticed a few backyard games scattered about the area. We found an area to play cornhole…
…as well as a Connect 4 game. While we feel like there is still a lot of empty space in this area, and the space seemed to be very hot, we do think it is a fun addition to have a few games available to play. They could be a good option to entertain kids while you are enjoying food at the picnic tables or for a bit of friendly competition to break up your park day. The games were scattered throughout the area, but we think there is definitely room for more in this space.
It is nice to see some more seating options pop up around EPCOT, especially for upcoming festivals (the trash can table works, but a table is so much nicer.) However, we would love to see a bit more added to this space, although it is fun to see a couple of backyard games placed in here. After you have finished playing some cornhole or Connect 4 in this new seating area, make sure you check out our video exploring the 25 things you should ALWAYS do in EPCOT.

A pipe dream area that will have to be continually monitored with a cast member inset of it being a brief respite amongst the hysteria of the Communicore pavilion.
Ah…so THIS is what the years of construction walls were for: A “play” area concept used by every microbrewery. Hot take, but the biggest excitement about the walls coming down has just been…the walls came down. I haven’t seen anything new that really excites or justifies the years of closure/money spent (wasted?).
We saw this area today. While it’s better than construction walls, we felt it was very underwhelming. After all, we can play these games free in our backyard, so for over $100 per ticket per day at EPCOT, our expectations are higher than backyard games.
