What’s the most iconic place you could go to in Disney World? Magic Kingdom of course!
It makes sense that you’d want to go there. There are so many attractions and experiences for you to enjoy, and don’t even get us started about how beautiful Cinderella Castle is! Speaking of attractions and experiences, we’ve gotta talk about your plan for the day because there are some things you could be doing that are just flat-out wrong! Let’s talk about it!
As we said, we’re going to go over some of the things you could be doing at Magic Kingdom that are just flat-out wrong! And ultimately we don’t want you to waste a minute of your time there, so let’s talk about your itinerary for the day.
Doing ALL of the Shows First!
You might be tempted to prioritize seeing all of the shows firsthand when you get to Magic Kingdom, and we can understand why.
We’re talking about shows like the Hall of Presidents, Carousel of Progress, and Tiki Room. They’re classics. We love them, too.
However, if your day looks like 9 AM Hall of Presidents, 10 AM Carousel of Progress, 11 AM Tiki Room, and so on, you’re really not leaving much time at all for rides.
You’re much better off prioritizing the rides you want to get on like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain, etc., and then sprinkling the shows in between them, or even strategically scheduling them for the hottest part of the day (since these classic attractions have air conditioning!).
Filling up on Snacks like Popcorn or Mickey Pretzels
Listen, we get it, Popcorn and Mickey Pretzels are iconic snacks that are basically a right of passage when coming to Disney World.
But if you fill yourself up on them without thinking, you’ll be missing out on some truly one-of-a-kind snacks.
It’s much better to plan on having treats like the Cheshire Cat Tail, Gaston’s Cinnamon Roll, and even specialty Dole Whips over at Sunshine Tree Terrace and Aloha Isle, and try not gorging yourselves on Popcorn or Mickey Pretzels.
AJ just made a video about lots of new Disney World snacks we don’t want you to miss, and you can watch it right here!
Making Late Dinner Plans
On the face of it, making late dinner plans sounds like a wise thing to do. If you eat late, that will give you plenty of time to do all the rides and shows you want. That’s all well and good, but if you do that, you’ll be missing out on one of the most iconic experiences at Magic Kingdom — the fireworks!
So, a better plan of action would be to have dinner well before the fireworks and have snacks if you need something to hold you over before watching the fireworks.
Buying Your Souvenirs In the Morning
As we all know, everywhere you look there’s a gift shop. It’s not a bad thing when you’re trying to get all the souvenirs you need for the trip. Also, the shops are basically the first spots you come across as you stroll down Main Street, U.S.A., and that’s why you might be tempted to buy your souvenirs first thing in the morning.
There’s two things that will happen if you do that. Firstly, you’ll miss out on valuable “short line” time at the attractions. Secondly, you’ll find yourself lugging all of those souvenirs around all day long.
You’d be better off grabbing your souvenirs later in the day, so you’re not weighed down by them. Also, that will give you more of an opportunity to hit up some rides when the wait times are lower. One caveat to this — merchandise can sell out in Disney World. If what you’re after is a limited collection and seems to be flying off the shelves, you will want to grab it when you see it.
Hopping Into A Different Queue When A More Popular Ride Is Down
What do you do when a popular ride is temporarily down? It might sound like hopping into the queue for a different ride would be the thing to do.
We would agree with you, but you need to be careful when picking that ride. What typically happens is that everyone else has the same idea as you, so rides that usually have short wait times can balloon (a ride that usually has a 20-minute wait time might have one two or three times as long).
Pay attention to which ride you’d like to get on, or you could grab a snack instead. The last thing we’d want for you is to get on in the queue with it saying 60 minutes, and by the time you get off, it only has a 10-minute wait.
Our Suggestion
Lastly, if you want to have a morning like us, you might want to plan for grabbing some Kona coffee on the way into Magic Kingdom, then rope-dropping Gaston’s Cinnamon Roll, and then finding a good seat to sit back and people-watch as the usual “chaos” ensues.
Those are just a couple of the things you could be doing at Magic Kingdom that are just flat-out wrong, and we’d love to hear more about it from you! In the meantime, be sure to stay tuned to DFB for more tips, tricks, and resources to help you plan the BEST Disney World vacation possible.

I disagree completely with not buying your souvenirs in the morning. All you need to do is just rent a locker and store it for the day once you get what you want. Never just wait to buy something if it’s what you want. You never know if it’ll sell out for good or not.
