If you’ve never been to Disney World before, you might be surprised by the number of truly FANCY places to dine around the property.
Of course, it’s easy to find the usual chicken tenders and hot dogs, but if you’re a sucker for fine cuisine, it’s readily available at your fingertips. Disney World is home to several signature restaurants and fine dining experiences, and recently, I got to visit one of those spots. Come with me to Flying Fish at Disney’s BoardWalk!
A little while back, Disney invited us out for a media event at Flying Fish to sample some of their most popular menu items. I’ll dig into my reviews a little bit below, but I was definitely blown away by the quality and thoughtfulness of many of the dishes I tried. In fact, that’s why I’m here to share my top 5 BEST things to get at Flying Fish!
If you’re planning a visit to Flying Fish sometime soon, here’s what I would recommend.
Slow-Roasted Pork Belly
To start, we kicked off the meal with some appetizers! We got to try a trio of options, and my personal favorite of the three was the Slow-Roasted Pork Belly. This dish is $18 and is served with spiced apple and cherry gastrique.
The pork belly had a deliciously rich savory flavor, and it nearly melted in my mouth. The spiced apple and cherry just add to the overall complexity of the dish, and it made me want to come back for more…and more…and more!
Hawaiian Hamachi
Also making my top eats list is the Hawaiian Hamachi appetizer for $18. This one comes with blood orange verjus, Florida citrus, and pink peppercorn yogurt. The description had me intrigued, and I was a little hesitant going into this, but it turned out delicious.
The tuna was incredibly fresh and bright, and it paired perfectly with the citrus flavors. It just all comes out tasting like springtime by the ocean! There was a great blend of textures, and this would definitely be an appetizer I would recommend to the more adventurous eaters out there.
Oak-Grilled Romaine
Surprise! All THREE appetizers I sampled are making it on the list! The third was the Oak-grilled Romaine for $15. It comes with buttermilk cream fraîche, pecorino romano, and marinated vegetables. If you want to start your meal with something lighter, this is what I’d recommend.
This is like an artistic take on your classic salad appetizer but with leveled-up ingredients and some rich flavors. I could taste the oak-grilled notes in the romaine and the crunch provided from the vegetables made it fun to eat. The cream fraîche and pecorino romano just really tied it all together.
Chilean Sea Bass
Perhaps the biggest highlight of the night for me, and also the dish that surprised me the most, was the Chilean Sea Bass. This was recommended by the chef and is available on the regular menu for $56. It comes with jumbo lump crab, grilled asparagus, tarragon, and Ras el Hanout brown butter.
This was rich, buttery, tender, and absolutely perfect. The asparagus was a great choice to pair on the side, and I found myself dipping every bite in that amazing brown butter at the bottom of the bowl. The bass was quite fresh and it was smooth without being too fishy. I would 100% order this again and recommend it to any seafood fans!
Vanilla Bean Cheesecake
Wrapping up our meal, we were given a trio of desserts to sample. By far my favorite of the options was the Vanilla Bean Cheesecake. I’m a cheesecake fanatic on any day, but this one was served with cherry fluid gel, spiced croutons, and brown sugar shortbread. You can get it for $13 and the presentation is stunning!
The cheesecake was creamy and smooth, with a lightly sweet cream cheese flavor blended with vanilla. The brown sugar shortbread crust added a soft, yet crunchy, texture and a bit more sweetness. If you want to cut back on the sugar, I tried scooping some of the gel up with the bites to get a sharper, fruitier taste. This was a great example of a simple dish done excellently.
Ultimately, that was the trend for the night — simple dishes leveled up with elegance. They really take the care to choose quality ingredients at Flying Fish, and it came through in the flavors, textures, and presentation. I had a spectacular time during my dinner here, and I can’t wait to go back!
