Soon, over 350 NEW cabins will open in Disney World. Disney previously announced that the Cabins at Fort Wilderness are getting a makeover. Yep, those classic log cabin homes are being totally redesigned to become the Disney Vacation Club Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort (but luckily, you don’t have to be a Disney Vacation Club member to book a stay in the cabins).

The concept art shows off the modern NEW cabins,”inspired by the resort’s idyllic setting, while also paying homage to the resort’s unique culture and heritage through the magic of Disney storytelling.” These cabins are set to open this summer (along with a LOT of other things in Disney World), but first, Disney has to actually BUILD these things. This isn’t just a quick renovation, people. It’s a totally NEW design. Come take a look!
Just like the old design, the cabins will still sleep up to six adults and include a bedroom, bathroom, living room, full kitchen, and private patio. Some cabins will also be dog-friendly — YAY!

It’s clear that this project is well underway, and now, Disney has something to say about the construction process, too! We learned that Orlando small business owner Juan Quiroga is helping build the more than 350 new cabins coming to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort this summer.

Although one of our readers spotted some construction happening in Disney World, the NEW cabins are actually being built offsite! Disney revealed that the project team is working in a “discreet warehouse in Orlando, Florida.” Sneaky, Disney! Builders are using a “pre-fabrication strategy to allow construction of the components of each cabin off-site in Central Florida.” That way, those cabins will be (mostly) ready to go before they even arrive at Fort Wilderness!

When the cabins open, you’ll be able to enjoy some new bonus features, like a stove in the kitchen and larger windows. Plus, Disney teased a callback to the former River Country water park! Disney said, “Look out for nods to the former River Country water park!” and suddenly, we’re ready to pull out the history books and look for clues. Anyone else?

Luckily, we can analyze these new rooms VERY carefully thanks to a new 3D virtual tour available online! Navigate to the bedroom and examine the artwork. Notice anything?
If you look closely in the bedroom, you can see what looks like a River Country postcard on the wall! It’s the one in the bottom left corner of the framed artwork on the wall.

The only thing missing would be two showers, that would make these ideal.
This as article never mentioned anything about a permanently closed waterpark???
Will any of the cabins be wheelchair accessible ?
Hi Jakgab! We were talking about Disney teasing a callback to the River Country Water Park that used to sit next to Fort Wilderness, but has been permanently closed for quite some time.
Hi Gigi, I re-read the article again and see what you mean. I remember Water Country well as I was there.
