Ever since we heard about the new Good Gravy! Roller Coaster, we’ve been dreaming of the day when we finally get to ride it. Now, that day is one step closer thanks to an important construction milestone.
The new Good Gravy! Roller Coaster is opening in Holiday World (in the Thanksgiving section of this theme park, of course) in May 2024. That’s SOON!

Holiday World recently announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the roller coaster just had its first test run on the track! Check out this video of the ride testing:

It looks like a pretty short roller coaster (the test run took less than a minute), but it’s kinda cool that it goes both backward and forward. And the launch looks cool too — the ride vehicles are pulled back after guests board, then they launch forward, back through the ride building!

A short roller coaster with an exciting launch…sound kind of familiar? It reminds us a little bit of TRON Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom! It totally makes sense, too, because the creators of that TRON coaster are from the same company that’s making Good Gravy! The themes of the rides couldn’t be more different — Thanksgiving dinner compared to a race through the Grid — but the short length of TRON has been one of the biggest criticisms of the ride, and it looks like Good Gravy! might have the same problem.

However, there are still a couple of thrilling-looking parts of the ride, including the launch and when you race towards that section where the track ends. The spike (where the track ends) is seven stories tall!

In fact, that part of the coaster (when you approach the end of the track and then go backward) is almost like Expedition Everest in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. So does that mean that Good Gravy! is just a hybrid of TRON Lightcycle / Run and Expedition Everest? Makes perfect sense to us ?.

Want one more Good Gravy! x Disney ride comparison? The premise of this coaster reminds us a LOT of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! Let us explain.
The story behind Good Gravy! is that you’re going to Thanksgiving dinner at Grandma’s house, but then you realize that an essential ingredient is missing: the gravy! So you have to hop on the world’s largest gravy boat to help make that famously delicious sauce.

That reminds us of the new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride coming to Frontierland in Magic Kingdom. Tiana is hosting a Mardi Gras party when she discovers that an essential ingredient is missing, so we join Tiana on an adventure to search for that missing ingredient. Seriously, the comparisons just keep on coming.

Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana, has four major sections, which are each themed to a different holiday. Good Gravy! is joined in the Thanksgiving section by rides like “Gobbler Getaway,” “The Mayflower,” and “Turkey Whirl.”
And don’t forget “The Voyage” wood roller coaster which is a highly rated wooden roller coaster in the Thanksgiving section as well.
