Imagine this, you’ve just snagged a delicious frozen lime margarita with that salt that you love so much around the rim. You waited 15 minutes just to get your hands on it, and you are one happy camper. You and your family start strolling around EPCOT and approach the newest attraction, Journey of Water — Inspired By Moana.
Journey of Water is a new walk-through experience that allows you to kinda of go at your own pace. It’s nice during the day but is stunning at night. Sounds like the perfect place for a drink, right? Well apparently, WRONG.
As I approached with my marg, I was quickly turned away by a Cast Member and told that I had to finish my drink before entering the attraction. I was so shocked by I quickly went off to the side and let the rest of my party proceed through the attraction so we wouldn’t hold anyone up behind us.
I was pretty surprised by this rule and the fact that we didn’t know it. So in order to confirm for you all, we had some reporters go back and ask a Cast Member if drinks are allowed on the attraction. We were able to confirm that is indeed the case — drinks aren’t allowed.
Now, this wouldn’t have shocked us if you can’t eat and drink practically everywhere in EPCOT. That’s pretty much what the park is associated with at this point, especially when a festival is happening and you’re constantly trying new things on the go.
As you can see, I really regretted buying my marg when I did and wish I would have gone through Journey of Water beforehand. Instead I found myself unable to really enjoy it since I quickly slurped it down.
Since this was such a huge shock to us, we thought we’d give you all a heads up on this drinking rule so you don’t find yourself in a similar situation.
These aren’t the only strange drinking rules in EPCOT. You can check out a few more below.

I can understand not drinking at Moana. They way most people act is the reason I assume. They would just empty drinks in the water, laugh about it etc. Those kind of people ruin it for ALL. I was at WDW Nov 27-Dec 5 , 2023 and in October 2022 for 10 days. I am from California. Rude people but the big majority are nice and pleasant. We did have people try and crash the line at Tower of Terror but WE did not let him through. We had no prblem telling them find another way to meet their friends , already been in line 25 minutes.
I’m surprised you weren’t able to bring your drink through the Moana attraction since it is outside and you walk through it.
Im not surprised. If it’s considered an attraction, food and drink are not approved in any of them. It’s always been like that. Considering how many cast members circle it, yeah I wouldn’t even have tried. You are a braver soul than I am LOL!
Probably so you don’t swallow the attraction water accidently.
I had my water bottle and drank from it, no one said anything. There is a sign at the beginning of the attraction about the water, isn’t there? Not sure now
This makes complete sense to me. You don’t like your drink, you dump it in the water, someone says. No one will know, they say. Your kid accidentally drops their beverage in the water. This makes TOTAL sense to me. You’re not supposed to have drinks on other rides / attractions, this is no different. For a water attraction, I don’t understand why this is such a “shock”?
