Counterfeit Disney World tickets can be a problem for guests.

If you’ve ever accidentally bought a fake Disney World ticket, you may have found that it doesn’t work once you’re at the gate. There is a long list of common ticket scams, but that will soon be a problem of the past. A new patent filed by the company may ensure that the tickets you’re buying are real.
According to The Orlando Business Journal, A new patent filed under Disney Enterprises Inc., a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, is for “Systems and Methods to Produce a Physical Article that Provides Admission Authorization to an Event Which Correlates to a Digital Asset from a Temporary Wallet.”
Basically, you’ll need a real ticket, and fake tickets won’t work.

Disney is looking to use blockchain technology to authenticate payments, which will make their tickets digitally guaranteed. The technology will write the terms of the transaction right into lines of code that cannot be tampered with. This will give you confidence that your tickets are real and will be able to be used in the parks.

According to the patent description, you will still be able to print a physical ticket for yourself, as well. This new technology could potentially put an end to fake ticket distribution by providing authentication of your real tickets.

Until the new technology comes out, the best way to know you’re buying real Disney World tickets is to purchase them directly from the Disney World website or at the gate. If you are a member of the military with proper ID, you can purchase discount tickets at your local MWR or at Shades of Green Resort. However, you will need proper identification at the park gates at Disney World.

Be on the lookout for ticket scams, and ensure you are purchasing authentic Disney tickets to prevent issues at the gate. Hopefully, this new technology will help alleviate the problem of fake tickets in the future.
