The rides are a big part of any trip to Disney World.
From slow-moving boat rides to fast-paced roller coasters, Disney has rides for everyone! They keep surprising us with new ride technology and they keep getting bigger and better. But not all the rides are as reliable as others. Even some of our most beloved Disney rides know how to let us down. We’ve noticed six rides that keep dropping the ball recently and unfortunately, it includes some of the most iconic Disney rides.
We are in the parks every day and we notice when rides stop running, temporarily shut down, or don’t even open right away. These next six rides seem to be on the fritz a lot more often than other rides.
Pirates of the Caribbean
Over in Magic Kingdom, a very classic Disney park ride takes you through the adventures of the Pirates of the Caribbean. This is usually a fan-favorite ride and certainly one of ours. But we have to admit that it tends to break down a lot.
Just the other day we were riding it when it broke down and the lights were turned on. Eventually, it started moving again but this is becoming a more frequent occurrence on our dear beloved ride. There are many days when it breaks down mid-day, doesn’t open when the park does or is down for an entire day. We care about this ride and hope it’s doing ok!
Test Track
We don’t think anyone is surprised this ride made this list. Test Track is notorious for always being down. Oftentimes it’s due to inclement weather, but that can’t be the only reason!
We’re not sure what its issue is, but it just doesn’t seem to want to stay open. This is unfortunate because this is a really fun ride! We really enjoy zooming fast around the outdoor track and competing against our friends to build the best car.
Rise of the Resistance
Rise of the Resistance is fairly new, so it’s a little surprising it made this list. However, the amount of technology that makes up this ride is unreal, and we all know how working with technology can be.
This is one of the coolest rides at Disney World. It takes on a galactic adventure zooming through a First Order Star Destroyer. It’s pretty epic. But with all that technology controlling this ride, we see it breaking down a lot. People even get taken off the ride in the middle of it occasionally. This is another one of our favorite rides, but it can be unreliable.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
This roller coaster is a blast and will rock your socks off! Aerosmith sings to you in your seat as you go chasing down the freeway on your way to a concert. But watch out for the upside-down loops! This is another great ride that is always closing.
It’s very common for people to get stuck in line at this ride, not because the wait is always super long (which it is) but because it temporarily goes down quite frequently. It’s a fun ride when it works.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Now, we hate to say bad things about Big Thunder Mountain Railroad because this ride will always have a special place in our hearts, but we have to tell you the facts. This ride goes down a lot. Big Thunder is similar to Test Track, when there is bad weather the ride has to close. And in Florida, we see bad weather pretty often.
It may be the wildest ride in the wilderness, but Disney still wants you to be safe (and we’re grateful for that). It just means this ride is down more often than a lot of other rides.
PeopleMover
The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is another favorite for many people. This ride takes you on a relaxing cruise inside, outside, and all around Tomorrowland. If you’re a people watcher, you might enjoy this ride. Yet, we see this ride consistently down.
For whatever reason, this ride is prone to breaking down. We see people being evacuated from it frequently on our trips to Magic Kingdom. Talk about a way to end your relaxing ride through Tomorrowland!
These are some iconic and beloved rides in Disney World, but if you want to be sure to ride them you might have to go to the parks multiple days or be very patient. We hope you get to enjoy them!

Rise of the Resistance disappoints frequently. If it breaks down while you are in line, you can hang out for no more than 10 minutes. If it is still not running, get out of line. My family fought me about getting out of line. We spent 3 and half hours there. Don’t do that.
Wow. Runaway Railway didn’t even make this list. It closes down twice almost every day before 11am.
