It’s okay, we all have rough days — and that includes Disney World rides.
Not every day can feel like snoap on Main Street or like coasting through Space Mountain. We see rides go down for technical difficulties all of the time in Disney World, and now, one of the most popular Disney’s Hollywood Studios rides is having a rough time.
On Friday, November 18th, we noticed that Tower of Terror was down for technical issues in the afternoon. Cast Members did not have an estimate and after peeking on the My Disney Experience app, we saw that the ride never reopened that day!
It might just need a good night’s sleep, right? Wrong. The ride was still closed on the morning of Saturday, November 19th.
By the time we got to Hollywood Studios again on Saturday afternoon, we saw the line of Cast Members in front of the attraction again. We spoke to them and they said the ride was still down for technical difficulties and they did not have a reopening estimate.
According to Cast Members we spoke with earlier, Tower of Terror is refurbishing one set of elevators, so only one half of the ride is currently running. That’s why the wait times for the ride have been pretty high and because only half of the ride is going, it’s probably more likely to go down.
So, what happens now? Well, Cast Members don’t know when the ride will be able to open as of now. If you’re in the parks, keep checking the My Disney Experience app — wait times are updated in there constantly and you’ll be able to see if the ride reopened.
Also, don’t be afraid to change your plans! If Tower of Terror was a must for you and it wasn’t open on the day you visited, try park hopping on a different day that you see it’s open in the app! This isn’t always possible, but you are allowed to change your plans even if you’ve been creating these plans for months.

The wait times at Hollywood Studios are insane. The first day we were there, RoR was down over half the day and went down again for an hour when we were in the storm trooper room. Smugglers was also down for portions of the day, as well as Rockin Rollercoaster and Tower of Terror. It seems like they can’t keep key attractions running at that park, leaving you waiting over an hour for a glorified tea cup ride.
We’ve sadly learned we prefer universal on our first trip to Florida.
For the past few years Tower of Terror has only been running one side of the ride. When a normal run will be 4 cars, it’s only running 2.
Disney is in a perpetual state of renovation and repair. When will things get finished.
So I commented earlier about wait times and true to form I just spent 2.5 hours in line for tower of terror only for it to break down and staff to offer nothing. No fast pass, nothing. What a waste of money with zero customer service Disney has turned out to be. RoR went down for an hour while we were on it and again nothing for our lost time. People pay so much they should be able to expect a minimum level of service 🙁
Just one side running today. Standby line crawling.

There is just one line running everyday. For the past 2 years.
According to CM’s I’ve spoken with, they were doing a long maintenence on one side. Then when finished, began working on the other. They’ve been running only one side for quite some time.
