Choosing an airline can be difficult. Do you go with pricing? Reputation? Best timing?
Our readers have said that Southwest Airlines is among their top favorites for flying to Orlando, and Southwest is making some changes to its rewards program! Whether you’re already a member or still considering it, find out what’s changing right here.
The Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards program is a convenient way for customers to earn points for flights. Your points don’t expire and there are no blackout dates, and you can apply your points to flights. If you’re a member or thinking about becoming one, you need to know the changes Southwest is making to the program.
Beginning in 2023, Southwest is giving Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit card members more opportunities to earn and redeem points. Southwest did not elaborate on what these opportunities could be, so we’ll be watching closely for more information.
And in Summer 2023, when you book Wanna Get Away or Wanna Get Away Plus with Rapid Rewards points, you can get a points refund if you cancel up to 10 minutes before your flight’s original scheduled departure time. Otherwise, you lose your points.
Companion Pass holders are also receiving some changes. This program allows guests to bring a traveling companion at no cost, and as long as their Companion Pass is valid, there is no limit to flights. Starting January 1st, 2023, Companion Pass holders can now board together, and the points required to earn the Companion Pass benefits are increasing from 125,000 to 135,000. Rapid Rewards Credit Cardmembers will also receive a boost of 10,000 Companion Pass points annually.
Rapid Rewards Members can qualify for the Companion Pass by flying at least 100 qualifying Southwest flights.

When I knew that I was going to retire to Florida from Oregon and leave my grandchildren I opened up my Southwest card. I added all my expenses when I bought my condo and started accumulating my points over the years. By the time I retired I had enough points go see my grandchildren whenever I want. I’m on a fixed income and this is a benefit that goes beyond anything I could’ve ever wanted. Southwest has always been a wonderful airline for me so now I get the awesome benefit of flying free. I love Southwest.
