When it comes to travel and travel-related news, there’s a lot going on, especially regarding COVID-19.
For example, many cruise lines are frequently updating their COVID-19 vaccination and testing requirements as the situation changes. Royal Caribbean recently announced that it would be removing its COVID-19 vaccine requirement on most sailings, and vaccinated guests will no longer need to get tested for sailings on most Disney Cruise Line ships beginning next month. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention keeps an eye on COVID numbers at many international destinations, with a system that ranks these places in different categories based on how many residents of these countries have tested positive for COVID-19. We recently reported that the CDC had added two new destinations to its “high” risk category, and now, another destination has been added.
On August 29th, Azerbaijan was added to the CDC’s Level 3 or “high” category, according to CNN Travel. Level 3 destinations are countries that have had more than 100 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents in the past 28 days. Of the 235 destinations the CDC monitors, over half of the places (125, to be exact) are listed at Level 3. Before traveling internationally, the CDC recommends that you be up-to-date on all COVID-19 vaccines available to you. Other countries at Level 3 include Mexico, Jamaica, Australia, and Japan.
It’s not all bad news, however, as Morocco, which was previously listed as a Level 3 destination, was recently moved to Level 2, which is the CDC’s “moderate” risk category. Level 2 places are countries that have reported 50 to 100 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 in the past 18 days. The Caribbean island of Saba was moved to Level 2 from Level 1 (the “low” risk category which required 49 or fewer cases per 100,000 in the past 28 days).
Other Level 2 countries include India, Kenya, and South Africa. Level 1, the “low” risk category, is made up of countries like China, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.
